I absolutely enjoyed dinner and service here at Carlyle. My favorite is was the grilled chicken pasta with that savory brown butter sauce! And the bread pudding dessert was very delicious!

I was able to find plenty of parking the evening I went. I enjoyed my meal. I opted for the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes instead of pasta and added broccolini. The food was good. I really enjoyed their apple pie, I wish I took a slice to-go.

I have been going here for over 10 years. I can say I have never had a bad experience here. They have continued to hire people who love doing a great job at making sure the customers are taken care. The chefs have always maintained consistency with all their dishes. I am very pleased with Carlyle and will continue to visit and recommend their restaurants.

Nice, relaxing environment. Service was friendly and timely (we were there on a weeknight). We ordered a bread basket, Jambalaya Pasta and the Crab Cake with Filet Mignon. Everything was delicious. The meat was perfectly cooked and buttery, the crab cake was the best I've ever had, the mashed potatoes and mushrooms were amazing on their own, and the pasta was amazing. The sauce was so flavorful and also very generous with the chicken, sausage, and shrimp. Will definitely come back and recommend to friends and family.

My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here. The hanger steak, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, crab cakes and rasberry lemon drop were all fabulous. I wasn't a huge fan of their regular fries or sweet potato fries and my husband didn't like his old fashioned. I thought the bread pudding was just okay. I wouldn't order it again. The service was also exceptional and the seating and atmosphere were cozy. We would definitely visit again!

I had an amazing valentines dinner at the Carlyle, but what made it so special was the service we received from our server Jason, he was so attentive and displayed such extensive knowledge of the menu and took very carful notice of our experience throughout our meal. What really made our night was Jasons kind words of advice as he told us that it’s never too late to start something especially if you have a passion for it and he inspired me to paint again. I will now be calling my first piece out of retirement Jason! It will be a tribute to his service and kind heart. Bless the Carlyle and Bless Jason.

Vibe and menu didn't disappoint as everything was in line with what one can expect from a Great American restaurant.

I've been coming to The Carlyle with my bestie for many years. We always get the delicious lobster bisque. Although, the bread basket has changed, we enjoyed the assortment. The staff is always amazing and attentive.

Normally I would give Carlyle five stars but I am upset to find out that they have taken the shrimp and grits off of the menu. That was the best dish! Gotta try other places in Shirlington I guess!

The service was wonderful! Hostesses greeted us upon arrival and departure, the server and food runners were very professional, prompt, and friendly.
The food was....okay. The prime rib was bland but tender

I’ve eaten in back-alley noodle stalls in Bangkok, half-legal parrillas in Buenos Aires, and places in Queens where the health inspector wisely chooses not to look too closely. Still, I’m a New Yorker. When somebody says dinner and a show, I picture Midtown, velvet curtains, overpriced cocktails, and tourists dressed like they’re auditioning for a cruise ship.

So credit where it’s due. The Carlyle Room in the storybook-tidy enclave of Shirlington politely kicked that assumption in the teeth.

Inside, the place doesn’t scream for attention. No culinary ego trip. My first thought was fast casual that went to finishing school. Comfortable. Civilized. The kind of room where you can relax without feeling like you need to take out a small loan for the bread basket.

Our server was young, clearly new, but sharp, composed, and moving with purpose. I’ll take earnest and competent over jaded and theatrical any day.

I ordered the jambalaya partly because I like it, partly because I wanted to see if a polished neighborhood joint outside DC could handle a Cajun classic without turning it into beige cafeteria sadness. They surprised me. Not with rice, but pasta.

And you know what? It worked. The pasta grabbed onto the spices like it had something to prove, holding the smoky depth, the heat, the soul of the dish. The shrimp were plump and sweet, the andouille bringing that necessary punch, that little growl in the background reminding you this isn’t just comfort food, it’s food with a past.

A solid, satisfying plate.

Then the lights dimmed, the stage came alive, and suddenly this unassuming suburban corner delivered a night that felt bigger than it had any right to be. Good food. Real performance. No Manhattan ego required.

My wife and I went out for a normal Friday night out and the food was phenomenal as we always expect when we dine at Carlyle (or really any of the Great American Restaurants) but, the service we received from our server, Sebastian, was 10/10. We were impressed with his knowledge of the menu but even more so his diligent and prompt follow up to ensure the special requests for our entrees and salads were met by the kitchen. Sebastian authentically cared about our dining experience for no other reason except wanting to make sure we had a great meal. While there we reconnected with old friends who also had Sebastian as their server and ended up having them join us and by the end of the night all 4 of us were so thrilled with Sebastian’s demanor and professionalism that we all ended up sending a voice note to his mother. What was first an ordinary Friday dinner date turned out to be a very memorable dining experience, largely due to Sebastian’s genuine kindness and great service! Looking forward to coming back again soon!
