I usually enjoy Compass Coffee, but my recent visit to the Rosslyn location was really disappointing. I placed a simple coffee order and was told it needed to be brewed, which was fine - I waited patiently. But the barista kept taking new orders instead of starting mine. After about 10 minutes, when I politely checked in because I had to get back to the office, I was told the coffee hadn’t even been brewed yet. I ended up canceling and leaving without anything after wasting so much time. I understand they may have been short-staffed, but orders already placed should be prioritized. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling like this location isn’t reliable and I’ll be avoiding it going forward.

I’m in from out of town so I wanted a coffee shop that was right by the Metro line and this location was great. The staff were super friendly. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and a chai latte and both were absolutely amazing and the prices aren’t too bad for a city.

Great coffee, quick service, friendly staff, & plenty of seating - 10/10 coffee shop for me!! ☕️
Also to add, came here before marine corp marathons, they opened an hour early, coffees were coming out quickly, & they did it all with a smile!

Amazing vibe, a nice spot for a casual and quiet date spot in the 2nd floor.

Love my morning shift ladies! They are always so kind and welcoming. After trying all the coffee shops in the area, this is definitely the BEST

All five stars service was received from the Rosslyn Arlington location. On October 10th I received outstanding service from Maggie based on a mix up when I placed my order which I was in DC. Maggie rectified my error with a friendly positive manner. Thank you Compassion Coffee Maggie is an asset to your patrons. Appreciate Maggie kindness!

Great coffee and espresso drinks, and delicious treats to enhance your java experience. Cool industrial style architecture at this shop also!
(Current visit) Had a delicious fall treat today!

There was not one drop of air conditioning to be found in that store. It was not comfortable. The drink was tasty but unremarkable.

I just moved to DC and started trying compass coffee. I was hoping for a Starbucks replacement. The coffee by itself isn’t bad but the lattes are lukewarm and have no flavor. I first tried a pumpkin spice cold brew and it didn’t taste like pumpkin. The next day I had a sugar free vanilla latte and there was zero vanilla flavor and the latte was not hot. The third time, I got another sugar free vanilla latte. I finally had them remake it because it was just warm. Again, zero vanilla flavor. I’m not sure what is happening but they have a long way to go to beat their competition.

This place used to be phenomenal: great coffee, great pastries, great service … I don’t know what happened, but the sudden precipitous decline on every possible metric is nothing short of astonishing (albeit tragic). Did the management change? Did they lose their minds? Did they decide they want to follow in the footsteps of other formerly great chains straight into obscurity (like LPQ maybe)? In any case, the coffee is now bitter and nasty (two times in a row). The pastries are completely different than before (seems they changed suppliers), which would not be bad per se BUT - they are now stale and disgusting (you can get a better croissant at Walmart). And the “baristas” (well they used to have baristas, not sure the current crew deserves this designation)….what can I say, they same disgruntled, miserable, unmotivated, zombified Starbucks-type clones you see at most chains (which was not the case before). But guess what - they now have a TIP screen, which they also did not have before. Hahahaha you can’t make this up - product quality and service standards plunge, but now you have the privilege of tipping them for the insult.

Compass Coffee in Rosslyn is, as expected, very clean with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. They have a nice variety of matcha drinks, so I decided to try one—while it wasn’t overly sweet, the flavor was lighter and less distinctive than I expected. On the other hand, their iced Americano is excellent and definitely worth ordering.
