I booked their Omakase but was unable to even try it. We do the one hour drive and pay for 90mins parking only to be told there’s no space for the omakase experience. When I get there I see at the bar two chairs in a section for reservations but yet we’re told those were unavailable? Why overbook when you can’t honor the guest amount? They offered to sit as a table that was lucky to even be empty? Cause I wonder what they would have said or done if a regular customer was sitting there? No point in doing the reservation or even coming in time. Ruined what should have been a fun birthday experience for my mom but oh well. Also they wouldn’t sit us in the reservation spot for some reason? There were already two parties of 2 sitting at the bar and then me and my mom and another party of 2 standing waiting too? So fix the reservation or limit it even more.

It appears that reservations may not be consistently honored at this establishment. My dear friend, an avid coffee enthusiast, had a reservation made by her son to celebrate her birthday. Upon their arrival, they were informed that no seating was available at the bar, despite the hostess subsequently seating other patrons without reservations in that very area. This unfortunately impacted her special day.

I have a reservation for noon, they make us wait for 16 minutes to tell us they didn’t have our table for 2 sitting in the bar and was a reserve sign with 2 seats and the person told me that it was someone else table soon the other peoples sitting in the bar left. How it’s possible with a reservation couple days ago they can’t give you priority and seat people arriving without reservation. CUSTOMER SERVICE POOR .

Okay forget Starbucks and paying $7 for a boring latte. Come here- get the pistachio latte and see a work of art presenting as your new favorite coffee. Definitely will be coming back. This was SO delicious.
They also have so much variety of latte (and I happen to be a latte gal). They have Ferrero, Dubai Chocolate, Strawberry Cheesecake, Apple Pie, etc. I had a hard time choosing, but ended up picking up a classic (shoutout to the baristas being patient because I took at least 10 minutes looking through the menu).

Pretty good coffee shop! I got the cinnamon latte and one of the pastries and both were good. My only gripe is that the little signs in the display cases didn't match what was on the trays which made it hard to tell what they had. Like a sign for a savory food item was on the tray for a dessert item or something sweet. Just made it hard to make a selection because the names weren't correct and without a food menu posted it's hard to verify.

I know they are busy but I hope they can use the fresh espresso instead of older ones sit on the counter for a while.

I’m not a fan of over-the-top lattes, but their corn latte intrigued me. So I went. The corn latte comes with corn crunch on top. Outside of that, it wasn’t bad at all. They also sell pastries and their chocolate hazelnut croissant was very warm and tasty! There’s plenty of space to sit for a while.

I've visited Gute Leute nearly every day since its opening. Without a doubt, it's the best coffee shop in the Ballston area!

I booked the coffee omakase (yes, like sushi, but make it caffeine) as a little “new job, new era” treat for myself on a cold, rainy day, and honestly, the timing could not have been better. Sitting inside, warm and cozy, sipping through five thoughtfully crafted drinks while the weather did its gloomy thing outside felt indulgent in the best way. Even though a few of the drinks leaned chilled or cold, it still worked perfectly and actually made me think this would be an incredible summer experience too.
The tasting itself is $44 (Best of 2024), and my total came to $61 with tip, which feels like an absolute steal for what you get. This is not just coffee being handed to you. Someone is focused on you, walking you through each drink, checking in, prepping everything fresh, and giving you space to enjoy it. It is attentive without being awkward. I went solo, and the couple next to me had their own barista as well, which really drives home how personal the experience is.
Every drink is made right in front of you, and that is half the magic. The bubble espresso literally arrives as a bubble you get to pop yourself. The Ember Pine, which is coffee meets sangria, was a standout, with everything poured tableside, a pine cone lit, and a cinnamon stick smoking. It felt ceremonial, almost ritualistic, in the coolest way. You are not rushing, you are participating. You can switch to decaf at any point, and the final drink comes in a to go cup, which I loved.
One thing to know going in is that the space is set up like a fast casual café at first, which briefly threw me off. You order at the front if you are grabbing a drink, but if you are there for the tasting, they seat you at the counter and create a completely different experience. Despite being surrounded by offices and shops, the space feels warm and inviting, like somewhere you are meant to linger. I will absolutely be back to see what their spring or winter menus look like, and yes, I am already picturing a return visit on a hot summer day.

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the NOVA area. Espresso is always extracted properly, never too short or too long. Service has always been great. I recommend their black sugar latte and the butterscotch latte! I got both with oat. Both the ham, egg, and cheese and BEC breakfast sandwiches are great.

Did the Best of 2024 coffee omakase at Gute Leute and loved it. The experience is creative, intentional, and surprisingly refreshing. Each course has its own concept, with espresso paired thoughtfully with ingredients like yuzu or peach. The combinations feel balanced and playful rather than experimental for the sake of it.
One standout was their signature “bubbled” espresso, where you gently tap the foam away before drinking. It’s a small ritual, but it sets the tone for slowing down and being present. As someone who usually prefers milk-based espresso drinks, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed these lighter, fruit-forward pairings. They focus more on harmony between flavors than on intensity or caffeine.
I also appreciated that the omakase didn’t leave me overly caffeinated, and they do offer decaf options if you let them know. They offer seasonal omakase menus, which makes it easy to want to come back and try something new.
The name Gute Leute reflects the concept well: “gute” means good, “leute” means people in German. The space really feels like a place where good people gather over thoughtfully made coffee, slow down, and enjoy the moment.
Parking can be tricky on weekdays. Street parking is free on weekends, but otherwise plan for garage parking. The omakase runs over 80 minutes, so giving yourself 2–3 hours is a good idea if you don’t want to feel rushed.
Also, Omakase is reservation required, otherwise, just walk in and get their signature coffees on the menu!

We came here for the Omakase experience and it was so much fun! We tried the best of 2024 one and it was 5 courses of coffee- and it came with decaf options so you don't get overwhelmed with caffeine! Our favorites were the Oh-a and the tea options. Great experience I would definitely recommend
