Came in to try the Vietnamese coffee with a Pokemon ice mold on it but we came too late. The person I spoke to said they sold out with in 15 mins of opening. Wish I knew that because this is the first time trying this establishment. The ice coffee was a nice strong Vietnamese coffee. Wasn’t hungry so we ordered the crab fried rice to go. I liked the flavor profile of the fried rice but it would be better with a little more crab in it. Everyone was very nice and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. Lots of pictures on the wall of previous customers. Would give this place another try in the future when we are in the area.

I haven't been in a while but recently ordered carry out and sadly Nam Viet is not what it was in the past. Every dish lacked flavor, the pork belly was inedible, rubbery and just a total waste of time and money. Mrs Thoi’s garlic noodles with Maryland lump crab was mostly noodles and garlic with tiny and I mean tiny slivers of a few bell peppers and carrots with two small pieces of what looked and tasted like canned crab. It was a total let down. The staple pork skewers over vermicelli was bland and not seasoned. The shrimp and scallops was missing for my order and btw you can’t call the restaurant, they don’t answer and if you leave a voicemail they won’t respond. The only way I can dispute this is to go to the restaurant which is a pain. The crispy rolls were great and busting with flavor but the garden rolls were 95% noodles and a tiny piece of mint, lettuce and two tiny shrimp. The crepe flavor was good but overcooked. Rice Paper’s crepe is the best locally. Every dish we had with noodles, the noodles were in a rectangular shape like they come out of the packaging, no seasoning just a big pile of tasteless noodles. The truly odd occurrence was when I picked my order up the guy was clearly Richard the son but when I asked, he said he was just an employee, not the son. Everyone that I had over are long time fans of Nam Viet but unanimously agree the food isn’t what it used to be. DC is now filled with great Vietnamese restaurants and Nam Viet is no longer one of them.

Customer happiness seems to be a low priority.

*Update: I never received a receipt for my online order, so I had no way of knowing the shrimp and scallops didn’t go through. The restaurant ignored calls and voicemails. Only after emailing them with “I left the negative review” in the subject did they send my receipt—within seconds. Without the review, I doubt they would have responded.

One of the last old school Saigon era Vietnamese restaurants in the DMV. Service is always good here. Good portion size and prices. Highly recommended.

This is the kind of place you want spend your money in. small family run, soft shell crab is heavenly and really never had a less than fantastic meal there. For us no better Vietnamese food than Nam Viet. great service too.

Soft shell crab is the best in the whole wide world. Spring rolls, soft shell, homemade lemonade and great service. This is a small family run business. Closes at 8pm so they can get home to family so get there earlier. We will drive fron DC weekly for the best Vietnamese food in the area.

I got pho bo (beef) and my friend got a bun bo hue ( spicy beef). Pho Bo was ok. The meat it had was hard and didn’t seem like it was cooked longer period of time where it gets soft. The bun bo hue didnt taste like it should. The soup didn’t have its beef broth taste that it should have. Overall, I wouldn’t get their soup.

Nam-Viet Restaurant is a hidden gem in Clarendon with delicious food at affordable prices. My favorites were the grilled pork and the beef curry — both full of flavor and perfectly cooked.

It’s also one of the few Vietnamese restaurants still standing from the old 'Little Saigon' days of Clarendon, which gives it a nostalgic charm and sense of local history. Service was efficient, and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Reservations are not necessary. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Long standing Vietnamese place located right in the heart of Clarendon. Fair prices, great menu size, and good quality meal. The wings (fish sauce flavor) were great and the veggie pho was packed with flavor and color.

Sensational, flavor explosion, a delight to every one of its senses. Richard is one of the most knowledgeable humans when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine. It is always an honor and pleasure to have the privilege to eat here.

The Bun Bo Hue with Cha Gio and a viet coffee with coffee ice is one of the greatest meals one could ever have.

BE WARNED! THEY CLOSE AT 8:00PM! We got there at 7:30. At 8:10 they turned off the lights and the 3 waiters stood around our table while we put the rest of our meal into to-go boxes. A $200 meal that we didn't get to finish. Not only were they rude about it but we had to pay a 22% tip (4 or more) as well.
No problem - lock the doors to new customers at 7:00PM and this would all have been avoided. Should have read the previous reviews.
Great food / terrible meal. We won't be back. Too bad.
