My husband and I came to Rus-Uz for Valentine's Day. It was a great choice! They had a special dinner for two at a very reasonable price. For appetizers we had "samsa" - perfectly baked, amazingly spiced triangular pastries and "fish under coat" - typically called "herring under the fur coat" in Russian cuisine. There are many variations of the herring salad, but this was one of the best I tried, perfectly authentic and delicious. For the main dish I had the plov (Uzbek version of the pilaf, with dried fruit, carrots and lamb meat) and my husband had manti (large dumplings) - both were great, but manti especially, probably thanks to the sauce they come with. For dessert we shared cream cheese blini (stuffed crepes), very tasty. The dinner came with a bottle of Californian red wine, which we had not had before, and which turned very nice. We loved the atmosphere: the paintings on the walls, the fascinating videos of Uzbek street food. As we were staying in Arlington until Monday, we decided to go back to Rus-Uz two days later. I really wanted to have the herring salad again - such a rare treat, unless I make it myself, and it take a lot of time and effort! Our mains this time were dolma and chicken Kiev, both very good - but I would especially recommend dolma (ground beef with spices, wrapped in grape leaves). Last but not least - we would like to thank the waiters who were polite and very efficient, both times.
It was an experience, but unfortunately, I will not come back.
The waiters were nice, and the service was fast.
The restaurant was empty, quiet, nice and clean.
Talking about the food:
It has the authentic flavers but not quite there. Missed my kind of food, but I came hungry and left hungry.
● Starting with the Complementary 4 small pieces of bread that was slid on the table of 5 people, as if the are saying "this is wat you get and shut up" it was not even wormed up.
● The "Sumsa" was not crispy nor flaky. The dough was condensed, but the taste was fine.
● The "Manti" was breaking down, indicating an old dough, or it was overlooked.
● The "Chebureki" was delicious and crispy.
● The "Lamb shashlk" was dry and flavorless, and the vegetables that came with it were also.
● The "Plov" was delicious, but for $24.00 a plate, I expected more than an appetizer portion, and the salad that came with was not seasoned.
● The "Russian honey cake" was ok, tasted closer to a Tiramisu than a Joney cake.
Was the forced automatic 20% gratuity fair for me as a customer? My answer would be, "No, it was not." Service was nice and all, but 10% would be my tip for the day (no welcome to the ..., No my name is ... it was just are you ready to order).

Everything is so delicious! I have been twice and want to keep going so I can try more of the menu. The inside is also BEAUTIFUL. Get a little more adventurous and you will not regret it!

The Piroshki was not what we expected.
The pilaf they cook here is delicious. Without a doubt my favorite Russian restaurant in Virginia.

Very overpriced. Small portions. For the prices they have on menu the potions size should be bigger. They need to reduce price or make larger portions. 20% added without option. Tips should be optional and with different % options. Food was ok. Plov was little bit cold and dry.

The food is not good!!!
The food and atmosphere is probably better than in Tashkent. They really know how dolma should taste.

RusUZ has gone downhill and sems to have no customers (and owner). Chicken Kiev was barely edible. Bought a $30 salmon roe which turned out to be rotten when opened.
