I have no idea how their ratings are so high. The actual food and experience does not reflect the reviews. The venue is dated and needs an upgrade. The service is very slow despite very few customers and 3 guys making sushi behind the food prep counter. The shumai shrimp was previously frozen and simply simply reheated. So the taste and smell was off. Also, the prices are ridiculous high for the subpar sushi.

For the last and final time, I got a roll with poorly trimmed scraps and nigiri that was also not fully trimmed. I used to come regularly, but no more. I will not be back. The quality and attention to detail has gone downhill, unfortunately.

Our 3rd time here and second time getting the sushi and nigri platter for two (I think it’s around $75). Highly recommend a reservation and getting there earlier to find parking (the lot is shared with a Harris Teeter). It’s a solid amount of food for two (36 pieces I think) and they have a lunch menu as well.

Fresh sushi here is tge standard. Some of the special rolls are tantalizing.
Try the sushi zen roll or the tempura fried shrimp roll...delicious.

Had a wonderful experience dining here! Sunday our family day made special. The restaurant was busy, server Abhel and Nicole provided excellent service from start to finish. They were attentive, friendly, and made great menu recommendations. Our food came out fresh and delicious, and even with the crowd, they made sure we were taken care of the whole time.

Really appreciated the positive attitude and professionalism it made our visit even better. We will definitely come back again. Great food and even better service!

Good food, but we ordered takeout and the chicken terriyaki kids meal did not come with rice--just chicken. Seems like an oversight (either it was supposed to have rice and they didn't include it or a prompt should have suggested rice)

Came here on a Thursday night. Parking lot was definitely crowded but there’s a lot of restaurants and other places within the shopping mall. No wait but we had reservations. It’s a cute little spot. Service was good, everyone was friendly and attentive. The miso soup was great and the sushi was very high quality. Definitely need to see if I can order take out from here!

I recently started going here because it's a little bit of a drive from my house. I think this has the best sushi/sashimi in Arlington; always fresh and well presented. The veggie tempura is also delicious. I haven't tried the rolls or grilled dishes. I enjoy hot sake w meal. It's relatively expensive but I think it reflects the quality of the fish.

It had been a long time since we last ate at Sushi Zen. We always enjoyed sitting at the bar and interacting with the sushi chef. But that is no longer an option.
We started with the fried panko oysters and the seaweed salad which we both enjoyed.
We ordered more sushi than we really needed but when you’re hungry….
The service was great and the starters amazing but the actual nigiri sushi and the rolls ordered were a bit of a let down compared to the presentation.
The yellow tail was good as was the eel. However the salmon belly was a bit mushy as was the urchin that was way too runny and without form. On top of that the fatty tuna was too chewy….almost rubbery for its market price.
The rolls were OK at best.
Ultimately the quality seems to have suffered some since our last visit several years ago.
