Tanuki Japanese Restaurant

Outstanding food and service. We brought a group of 8 for dinner on Sunday night and our server was very attentive and helpful as we needed info on which dishes were GF. The sushi was beautiful and fresh, and delicious!

Tanuki is my favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant with good quality and price. Its Tanuki Specials for 2 is my go to dish. We find its sashimi to be good quality.5/14/22 Ordered chicken katsu along with the Tanuki special for 2. Chicken katsu is so so and probably won’t order again but the Tanuki special is still good. Incredible food and service. The crunchy sushi rolls were absurdly good. 100% recommend to anyone looking for good Japanese food. Very unique and exquisite flavors.

This is a whole in the wall that could do better. Nice staff and good food is made at this place. Menu is limited at the restaurant and forget the the idea of ordering through Uber Eats super limited menu choices a the platform.I love their ramen soup and sushi, and their salmon teriyaki is decent.

Had a great Sunday afternoon Sushi lunch with my daughter. Ordered the #78 and #82 while my daughter got Spicy Salmon and California rolls. Everything tasted great. This is just me but I really liked how they gave me a can of coke and a glass of ice, small things that I like as a customer. We will be back and I posted pics of the hours and items we ordered.

Filling portions and they used just the right amount of rice vinegar for their rice!

Decided to try this place on a whim, and am so glad that I did.Sushi was some of the best I’ve had in the DC area. Despite the issues that restaurants have faced with COVID, Tanuki has managed to maintain a high standard of quality.Very fresh, clean tasting fish. Ordered the Naruto roll, the spicy tuna roll, and a shrimp tempura roll who’s name escapes me right now. All of it, absolutely spectacular. Also ordered the shumai as an appetizer, also really good!Prices are really good for the quality of the food, I’d say. Spent about $30 per person.Coming back as soon as I can!

Great experience. Helpful staff. Tasty food. Chirashi (our measure of great Japanese restaurants) was very full of lots of fresh fish. Wouldn't have minded a few more vegetables, but it was more than filling. Roll was also very fresh and tasty. Highly recommended. We'll be back!

Their sushi was great! Everything was very tasty and their portions were great! Will be coming back!

Teriyaki beef is cut in thin slide with the sauce. Don't think it deserves $23.00. Spicy ramen noodles the broth is not much flavor, the pork is not good. The restaurant is very hot inside. Uncomfortable to eat in. Will pass this restaurant. Don't see how or got good ratings.

Volcano roll is great. Also had the Banana Tempura desert, which was awesome.
