This is a whole in the wall that could do better. Nice staff and good food is made at this place. Menu is limited at the restaurant and forget the the idea of ordering through Uber Eats super limited menu choices a the platform.I love their ramen soup and sushi, and their salmon teriyaki is decent.

For a place that looks very unassuming, this is a diamond in the rough. The sushi is awesome (had eel roll and spider roll). Ramen is pretty good for the price. Big amount of noodles and meat for the price. Soup is hot and tasty. Can't go wrong here. Order everything

Wow, I was absolutely blown away by my latest takeout meal from Tanuki. We have always enjoyed whatever we ordered from Tanuki--from teriyaki salmon to chirayashi bowls. this most recent experience, however, seems to show even greater skill and precision than past visits. It could be that we also didn't try the more "basic" sushi combos and got fun rolls instead, the kind with memorable names and such. Our order today was so artfully prepared and everything a sushi purist could possibly want in sushi--perfect rice, fish that just melts in your mouth, everything just the right temperature (all very important and often done wrong). I am so impressed and extremely happy to have such an outstanding option for sushi. A big round of applause for the talented chef.

Had a great Sunday afternoon Sushi lunch with my daughter. Ordered the #78 and #82 while my daughter got Spicy Salmon and California rolls. Everything tasted great. This is just me but I really liked how they gave me a can of coke and a glass of ice, small things that I like as a customer. We will be back and I posted pics of the hours and items we ordered.

Nothing special but it was just fine. I had sushi and my kid had salmon teriyaki. The two complaints were the soup was lukewarm and the tea was served in a plastic kettle. But fish was fresh.
Filling portions and they used just the right amount of rice vinegar for their rice!

Decided to try this place on a whim, and am so glad that I did.Sushi was some of the best I’ve had in the DC area. Despite the issues that restaurants have faced with COVID, Tanuki has managed to maintain a high standard of quality.Very fresh, clean tasting fish. Ordered the Naruto roll, the spicy tuna roll, and a shrimp tempura roll who’s name escapes me right now. All of it, absolutely spectacular. Also ordered the shumai as an appetizer, also really good!Prices are really good for the quality of the food, I’d say. Spent about $30 per person.Coming back as soon as I can!

Great experience. Helpful staff. Tasty food. Chirashi (our measure of great Japanese restaurants) was very full of lots of fresh fish. Wouldn't have minded a few more vegetables, but it was more than filling. Roll was also very fresh and tasty. Highly recommended. We'll be back!
