The Difference Baker

This bakery is actually mostly vegan, with a small number of items that are not vegan. Ok, maybe not small, like maybe 20% of the items are not vegan, but that's really good for a shop that focuses on being gluten free and not vegan. Love that they have so many vegan options! I love the freezer section because there are just that many more options, and you don't have to worry to call ahead or pre-plan, as there are tons to choose from for your gluten free palate to be happy. They had bagels, baguettes, waffles, cookies, cakes, pizza, and pizza dough. I was in a rush so I didn't order any food to be made to order, but, next time. From the "fresh" cases on display, I ordered a chocolate chip cookie, 2 creme pies and a cinnamon roll. The double chocolate chip creme pie/ cookie sandwich was awesome, but, the price is not something someone can just say, yes, let me order half a dozen ($24) for a party on a whim. The regular chocolate chip cookie was good in flavor and the exterior looked good, but the interior seemed a little underbaked for my taste. Overall, I was very happy with the Difference Baker and its vegan offerings, and I would highly recommend to anyone who is vegan and gluten free in their dietary choices.

Omg I was so thrilled to find out this place was just a mile from me. They make vegan glazed donuts on the spot, served warm and fresh, and their vegan breakfast sandwich with coconut bacon flakes is divine. Note that there is outdoor seating only. They also have a freezer of pre-made goods for take and bake as well. Everything is very well labeled (vegan, gluten free, etc). This place is definitely my guilty pleasure :).

My daughter just celebrated her 5th birthday and 2 weeks prior to her party her normal baker (in Richmond) cancelled on us. We were then panicking because our daughter has a few of the top 9 allergens (severe) but we recommended by our community page to “The Difference Baker” here locally. They were phenomenal in responding especially with it being last minute and so close to the holidays. We are so grateful! The cupcakes look exactly like the photo I sent in. The taste of these cupcakes were so good. I 100% recommend using “The Difference Baker”.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Difference Baker, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience from start to finish! As someone with food sensitivities, I’m always cautious about where I eat, but The Difference Baker exceeded all my expectations.

Such a delightful place. It was our first time there, so we got various items to try. Got a breakfast sandwich on the cheddar chive biscuit and it was wonderful! They have the biscuits in the freezer section and I can't wait to stock up on them!! The pretzel dog was delicious and the closest to a real pretzel we've found! Donut holes were amazing as well!

We will definitely be putting TDB in our rotation and you should too!

Nice bakery! I stumbled upon it at the farmers market and the ladies working told me about the brick & mortar location when I inquired about sugar free options. I stopped by just for that - got a keto red velvet brownie to try out. It was definitely good for not being a freshly baked item (it was in the cold section). I will be trying out the keto chocolate mousse next time, and crossing my fingers for more keto options in the future! Certainly recommend this spot for anyone with allergens or dietary restrictions!

We actually met while on vacation! They graciously gave our daughter some cookies, pizza, rolls, and bagels when we overheard them talking and our 6 yr old was very recently diagnosed with Celiac. They are so kind and caring and truly want to make a difference even in vacation. The cookies were absolutely amazing and our daughter already gobbled up the bagel today! Amazing food. Amazing human beings. Forever grateful for this chance encounter!

Ordered a birthday cake for a coworkers birthday- she does not eat gluten. The service and ease of ordering online was great. To be fair, this is the first time I have eaten a gluten free cake but everyone who tried the cake was disappointed. It didn’t seem like it had been baked for long enough and it had a salty flavor- some said it reminded them of play dough. I had higher expectations considering the 8” 2 layer cake cost $75.00- almost $79 with tax.
