Cafe 54 Breakfast and Lunch

My waitress was very sweet. She had lots of personality. However, she brought my coffee black with no cream or sugar available at the table. I asked for cream or half and half. The servers brought the food but no cream or half and half. I ended up drinking my coffee black. Refills were never offered.

For my first visit this place was excellent a little slow on bringing out my order but it was worth the wait once it came.

It's delightful little hole on the wall is where the ashland coffee and tea used to be. They have a very nice menu and all the portions are ample, regardless of what you get. The service is spiffy and friendly. The prices are very reasonable. The only thing tricky is the small parking lot. If you are a local, you will know how to deal with it. Otherwise you are going to be riding around a bit, looking for a spot.

Early October with great weather. Had breakfast of açaí bowls and egg dishes. Service was friendly and quick. Food was very good and priced reasonably. Outdoor seating was available This place is about a mile from RT 95 exit. I think it’s worth the extra time to bypass all food chains and give this local place a try.

Service was horrendous.After ordering ,we could have jumped on & rode that train to RVA & back to Ashland before our food was brought out……choo-choo slow…….

No complaints about the food but the service has much to be desired. When we arrived, we asked to sit outdoors. She had us sit inside and then forgot to tell us when the table was ready. While waiting inside, I heard a guest ask if they had to do something different to order because they hadn't seen a server.
We finally asked if we could go sit at our table before someone else nabbed it and she apologized that she forgot about us.
Then we never saw a waitress for a long time to take our order. She seemed surprised that nobody helped us but she was serving the tables all around us.
The table next to us asked to have items taken off the bill that they never received. The table on the other side called out to her several times while she was walking past them.
Our food was fine. And we too waited a long time to get our check.
They have a great thing going here but definitely need to better train their staff. I know it is a very hard time to get and keep great help, but it's not an option to survive in this business. Best of luck.

Food tastes great. Serving size is perfect for the price. We were here around noon on a Saturday. It was quiet, and we sat right away.

However, the staff seemed more preoccupied with their personal cellphones than providing service. One was in the back food prep area texting away rather than preparing food. She put the phone away and got back to work, without gloves and without washing her hands after touching her cell. Also, some servers were a bit immature behind the serving counter. At one point three of them were laughing and ducking behind the server counter while another table waited for a server to take their order. While writing this review, another table had not received their food in a timely manner, so the customer walked to the server counter to find out what happened to their order.

Refocus the staff and the place gets 5 stars.

Had a very delicious breakfast here. Good service and reasonable prices. We also sat outside which was very nice. I got the biscuits and gravy and my friend got the French toast. We both cleaned out plates!

Pretty cheap, but just kinda hickish and mid food.

My group just had breakfast at Cafe 54. The food was delicious and the staff was very accommodating. Would highly recommend!
