Finally made my way to Jake’s place. It was absolutely delicious. Hot and fresh. Best brisket I have had since I moved to the area from Tennessee. Sides were so good. Greens had wonderful flavor and texture. Hush puppies were crunchy on the outside and warm and tender on the inside. Service was so friendly and attentive. Definitely will be back!!!

Love it!! Met Wendy at a veteran’s event in Richmond where she was catering. It was so well done that we decided to have her cater our upcoming wedding. She and her team were extremely helpful and responsive during the planning phase. Coordination afterward was a breeze and our guests LOVED the food. Nothing but compliments!! We highly recommend eating in or catering and will definitely use Jake’s again. Thanks Wendy!

Mostly all the bad reviews I see look like the people had buyers remorse or are just oblivious to the fact of real barbecue is.

People expect perfection which I do understand, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. The owners are easy to speak to and are more than happy usually to always accommodate if there is a legitimate complaint or issue that has been brought up.

Yes, in the past, I’ve had a few issues here and there, but nothing that they could not handle or take care of to make me happy by the end of the service.

People seem to forget how to be kind these days and understanding.

If you read any reviews, please understand this place is great and it is a welcome breath of fresh air for the area.

Traveling through and found Jake's on the web. Ordered the fried green tomatoes. What a treat! The combination of the tomatoes and the feta cheese and warm honey was a surprising delight. My companion ordered the crabcake sandwich and loved every morsel. She was not high on the hush puppies as she thought they were too dry. I ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of baked beans. The brisket was thick sliced and very tender with a nice Smokey flavor. The beans were not to my liking but it may be I prefer my beans prepared differently. I also ordered a side of baked macaroni which I never received. That takes me to the fact that the restaurant was understaffed and the workers who were there were running around like chickens without a head. The question to be asked is whether I would return and the answer is yes.

Save your money. Made special trip to this hole. Ordered crab cake platter and pork sanwitch platter. My whole life a platter always had 2 sides. This place only one. Rip off. Got onion rings. Still had the onion skin on the inside of them. Dogs wouldnt eat that trash. Ownner Wendy called. Said she would drop off gift certificates the next day.. that was a month ago. Would not go back to this place if it was the only place left on earth. Owner should take cook to burger king to show him what onion rings are.. again save your money and time. Avoid this joint.

Jakes Place is a delight to visit. From the perfectly curated BBQ vibes outside to in all the way to the traditional southern country charm the staff produce, Jake’s makes a great stop for the whole family. If you’re just interested in a bite to eat, you won’t be disappointed either ! Equipped with their own smokers outside, Jake and his staff are able to not only smoke their own meats, but also make the majority of their menu in-house. Making your way to Jake’s is a decision you can’t lose on!

The Route 54 Big Boy Burger was phenomenal! I really loved the sweet tea too! I always enjoy supporting local, family owned, small businesses, but it's even better when the quality of the food is this amazing!

Went here with wife. My pulled pork barbecue sandwich was great. They are a bit limited on the gluten-free side of things, but were very helpful to my wife on finding something she could have. The waitress was very friendly and we had absolutely no complaints. It is a converted service station so definitely not cookie cutter atmosphere.

Stopped for a bite and got treated with one of the best burgers I've ever had, the Route 54. The BLT green fried tomato was also a great choice.

Wonderful, quick and friendly service, fair prices and a welcoming environment. Thank you for the experience!

The highlight of our experience at Jake's Place was meeting Wendy. The place was packed and they were preparing to serve the veterans at the Nascar race in Richmond this weekend. Wendy was busy making 1,000 brownies but took time to sit and chat with use for a few minutes. The food and service were great .My husband had the BBQ platter and I had the BLT with pimento cheese and green tomatoes. Jeff Katz always speaks highly when mentions Jake's Place and Wendy on WRVA. Now I get it.
