This one is definitely a diamond in the rough, that I would keep coming back to and work my way down their menu with each visit. I get it, when they said they're MixMix Korea... from the chic vibe of their decor, to the vibrant colors of their fresh delicious food, plating and portions were great. And the meeting of Korean to American tastes is there. A good beginning for anybody who's new to korean food, see the healthy side of their menu, and be surprisingly taken in by items with a spicy level to it. We had d Panjeon and squid skewers (which I wish I ordered two)- is an appetizer must have! Took a bite of my kid's Japchea with beef and it's yummers! I could tell my older son's Mixmix bibimbap was awesome, bec by the time I asked for a bite from his bowl... he was almost done. I, on the other hand had the JookooMee.... it was refreshing and the taste is what I was looking for! Baby octopus, maybe half a minute more to cook.. but still delish! Hey, I eat them raw, pickled or grilled..it's still a yes! Hubs was really looking forward to d spicy beef stew, unfortunately was not available. Till my next visit, hoping for a leveling up..... of course, of d bibimbap with an option to be dolsot bibimbap or a sunny side up fried egg on top. My official rate is a 4.5. Cheers!
I came here during Winter Break, and I love this place. I was all alone in the restaurant and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. Furthermore, the wait staff left me alone which I appreciated it. The interior decor vibes were very chic, personally I loved the mixed level design and the cool glass light fixtures. It's very out of place in Blacksburg, and more befitting of a DC restaurant. That being said, my bibimmyeon dish wasn't spicy and a little too salty. Price wise wasn't bad, and I would definitely come back again. It's truly a shame I've graduated because this easily is my new favorite spot in Blacksburg.
I was excited to see a new Korean restaurant as I am from Korea. I have tried 순두부 찌게,and I have to say it was pretty disappointing. Come on.. we all know there are genuine Korean restaurants in Northen Virginia just 4hr away. Now I am just worried, folks in Bbg would think this is what Korean food taste like. Just.. don't get 순두부.. My buddy tried 회덮밥 and it was not the same as what we see in Korea, but that one was actually good and similar enough. Servers are very friendly. I would suggest to get rid of the soups out of the menu and just focus on bibimbab and may be try bbq. 순두부찌게가 물에 고추기름만 넣은것같았네요.. 맹맹했네요..
Flavors were okay. We ordered the MixMix Bibimbap and the Soondubu. The bibimbap was good I felt as if it could use some more seasoning. The soondubu was good, but make sure before you order you realize that it is a veggie base. I was very confused at first seeing some of the veggies places in it.
To open: the food was excellent! Everything my wife and I had was fantastic. However, the state of the service needed some work. Like so many other restaurants post covid, I'm sure they are short staffed. The restaurant was enjoy half sat when we arrived. First we waited for a server to be freed up so we could be seated. We were quickly brought water and we ordered an appetizer and two entrees. We didn't receive our appetizer until our entree arrived and we notified our server. Our appetizer was brought out and again, the food was fantastic. After 40 minutes it became clear that our server had forgotten about us. She never came back to check on us or refill our drinks. We left our table and walked up to her at the bar to pay because we had made several attempts to get her attention to no avail. The food was excellent but the service was pretty bad...
Fabulous dishes. Clean & pleasant atmosphere. Staff is wonderful. Generous portions!
We stopped by for cocktails as we had a reservation at a different restaurant, but I can't wait to come back and try the food here! It looked and smelled wonderful! Our bartender was super nice and explained some of the finer niceties of Korean meal etiquette. Plus our drinks were awesome and reasonably priced. I wish them much success!
Really really wanted to like this place but I went when they were not too busy and long story short they ignored my party and never brought out our food after waiting for 2+ hours. They were apologizing for slow service and comping other tables' meals that arrived after me and were also served food while continuing to ignore my table. Very disappointed.
I had a very unpleasant experience. I was so excited to try the mouth-watering Japchae. However, from the moment I arrived, the staff was cold to me. I waited over an hour for my food. They gave half the table their food, and I was forced to wait an extra half hour for mine. I sat there in silence. I was so famished that I could feel my stomach sinking in. And, I ordered a drink and asked them to put light alcohol in it. They must have put two double shots in after that. I was unfortunately disappointed and it pains me to say this.
We couldn't stay for dinner this time but definitely will next visit. Very friendly service and an amazing menu. Not your typical Korean restaurant.

Incredible staff that was very kind and patient. They explained the meals and the process of enjoying them. Perfectly cooked pork and wonderful flavors that personally, ill never be able to recreate at home. Drinks were delicious and refreshing. Staff had wonderful recommendations and were extremely pleasant to talk to. Will eat there again, and will bring friends!
I have had a fair amount of Korean food in the past, and this place isn't the best nor the worst. The owners are very nice here and provided good service. However, the food is too expensive for its average quality. I've had much better Korean food for much lower prices at other places.BB Cup was better and cheaper than MixMix but it's out of business now. It must be difficult to get the right ingredients in Blacksburg, because I've been to a good place in Roanoke too. On a grad student's income, this place is simply too expensive with better options available on Main Street, but I hope it improves because I love Korean food and want it to succeed in Blacksburg.
Belle and Peter have brought a cultural gem to Blacksburg. Her Korean history lives in this restaurant. Not only in the infused Soju above the bar, but in her recipes and stories from her childhood. The wait staff seem dedicated to providing excellent service and take pride in the restaurant. My wife and I have enjoyed every thing about Mix Mix.
I love their food. It’s delicious! Their staff is super kind! The owners are so great! I’ll continue to support this business.❤️
Really great staff and amazing food. Recommend the Kloud beer (sp?) to accompany the meal. We will definitely be back.
