We had takeout from them during the pandemic and it was really good. We finally got a chance to dine in. The service was very friendly, and the food is served pretty fast. The food is also very very good. Definitely comfort food. And very reasonably priced.
Absolutely fantastic meals, wine, appetizers, salad, and bread. Please make this a stop if you're in Charlottesville for a weekend. Can get busy but the service and food was killer.
Only here for one night and started the search. Debated between three and Mangione’s won. I’m glad I followed my intuition. Quiet, casual relaxed with excellent and friendly service and high quality food. Gorgonzola salad was spot on. Classic Old World Italian.
Visited Mangione's with a family of 5 (three kids under the age of 7) while on an overnight trip to Charlottesville, and we were beyond impressed. The wait staff was friendly and patient. They offered kids portions that weren't on the menu. My kids devoured the spaghetti and meatballs - asking for more before the had even finished their first portion. We had the arancini which was bursting with roasted red pepper flavor, the seafood risotto which was so garlicky and delicious, and the chicken parm that was pleasantly not deep fried over fettuccini with an incredible marinara. Wrapped up the meal with the flourless chocolate cake, which one kid declared will "change your life." Our total meal for five - appetizer, entrees, dessert, and wine - was under $100. This wonderful find is right on Main Street and walking distance from the hotels and train station. I highly recommend making a reservation, as it they don't have many tables and were packed on the Saturday night we visited. They were even so wonderful as to accommodate an earlier arrival than our reservation with just a quick phone call, and smartly placed our larger group in a back table out of the way of the smaller tables at the front of the restaurant. Do yourself a favor and visit Mangione's on Main when you are in the area. We will be back!
This restaurant is AMAZING! The food is soooo good!
For me, dining at Mangione's was the result of a chance encounter while travelling through Charlottesville on a road-trip - and the only proof diners need that taking a chance will often be rewarding. Seeming to straddle the boundary between smart casual and casual dining, the aura was faintly romantic and possessed the agency to make a Tuesday afternoon feel like a Friday night.Despite being close to capacity, the serving staff effortlessly bounced from table-to-table without leaving anyone feeling as though they had waited too long, or had been bothered too frequently. For those nauseated with the tomes that restaurants often provide in the place of menus, diners will find the menu at Mangione's on Main refreshingly small and carefully hand-selected.I had ordered the chicken fettucine alfredo and had initially been concerned with the size of the plate which, while beautifully presented, erred on the side of small. However, through the richness and quality of the sauce and the pasta, I was relieved to discover that I had been served entirely the right amount of food to leave me feeling satisfied but not fatigued by the chore of over-eating.
We arrived after a long day in the car. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our waiter was helpful in making our dinner choices. The disappointment was they were out of romaine so no Gorgonzola salad which I had chosen as my entree. Maybe that was a good thing because I chose the Rosa Di Parma which was like having dinner at my Grandma’s table. Pork loin stuffed with pancetta and mozzarella served in a wonderful broth filled with veggies. My husband chose the sea food risotto that was loaded with shrimp, calamari and cod. The risotto had a just a hint of cayenne. Definite dinner win.
A group of four of us arrived in Charlottesville late last Monday, and we were looking for a place for dinner. We found Mangione's, and what a find it was! It was the best Italian food we can remember having, and the service was excellent! We highly recommend this restaurant, and we will be back the next time we are in Charlottesville.
This place was spectacular. The food was amazing, and the service was impeccable. If possible, ask for the waiter Mark (or Marc). He is incredibly kind and will help you with anything. Have a great day!
Ask for mark. He is very nice

Excellent little spot to go for Italian food. Would not call it intimate or quaint, but small and got a little loud. All that said, the food was amazing. We had the Arancini and Caesar salad for starters (with real anchovies on top) I enjoyed the Chef Special gnocchi baked Capreece which was delicious and the wife had Rigatoni al forno which was devoured as well. They have a full bar, with plenty of wine and beer options as well. The service was impeccable and would highly recommend.
Quaint little spot tucked into the side of the buildings along main. Food was fabulous!!! Not a bad thing to say about the food. Paul our server was phenomenal he knew his menu and was so friendly and accommodating to our dietary needs.Amazing place!!!~Paul~ love your 3 out of state favorite gals. 7/6/2021
Mangione's is on West Main, a few blocks (an easy walk) from the Omni Hotel, Marriott Residence Inn, or the walking mall. Well worth the walk. We drove by earlier in the day - it is much smaller than anticipated, and we almost missed it - so small, in fact, that we would recommend making reservations. During the course of our meal we must have seen 5-6 couples turned away. The restaurant entrance looks much like a neighborhood bar, and indeed the interior has that look, but much cleaner. Ambiance is a bit loud, as the place is small, has hard surfaces, and is busy. We were seated quickly and water was swiftly served. Our server, Paul (who resembles a large Jeremiah Johnson) could not have been more personable and helpful. He was appreciatively attentive without hovering. Dinner was excellent! We had a really well-presented vegetarian plate and the evening special: a gnocci dish that had toasted gnocci served with sauteed tomatoes, basil, and artichoke hearts, all smothered with Buffalo mozzarella and a balsamic glaze - Paul said that Chef was kiddingly calling it "gnocci caprese." Really fine food, pleasant service, and reasonably priced - we'll go back.
Wonderful waitress! Great food and service!
Everything was perfect and amazing!! We had the mussels and calamari as well as the house and Caesar salads. My Grandparents are hard to impress, especially my Grandmother who is Italian. She said it was the best calamari she’s ever had! When I say chef Mick Markley cooked everything to absolute perfection I am not exaggerating. The best meal any of us have had in a long time! We are all already planning our next visit. Service was excellent and friendly as well! Thanks Chef Mick for an amazing dinner and experience!
