This place hits all the notes - really pleasant staff, cozy surroundings and a delicious meal. Bonus - sit at the bar and your senses are rewarded with the wonderful aroma drifting out of the kitchen. Wish it were in my neighborhood!

Almost don’t want to review it to keep the secret to myself but this is the best restaurant in Charlottesville. The food is simple but so incredibly delicious and the service is warm and top notch. And the vibes here are so cozy and friendly. Life goal is to be a regular here.

Birdhouse is so amazing, it’s cozy and convivial but the food is ridiculous. It’s such a kaleidoscope of fresh and bright, warm and roasty, and all delicious. There is not a restaurant in cville anything like this.

Dark rooms , tasty chicken but Lilliputian portions. I would not recommend it. And that’s only for minuscule portions

It’s hard to find restaurant food that’s not super salty but everything here tastes like it’s homemade! I was so impressed by the flavor of the chicken and all the seasonal side dishes. A wonderful dinner experience!
The patio is so cozy and lovely! As a group of 4 we ordered the half bird and a ton of sides. Our favorites were the baked fennel and the eggplant.

I think for a lot of people this restaurant could be 5 stars. The food was prepared very well and the service was great. But the seating feels really on top of each other and I never got a wow moment from the food. I think this could be due to the style of food - it felt very farm to table. Lots of mellow flavors, lots of butter & oil. We enjoyed our experience but I don’t think we’ll return.
Very large wine selection, small beer & cocktail selection.
Side note - the location is very odd - it’s almost a small house on an industrial street. It didn’t feel unsafe or anything, but certainly a curious walk coming from downtown.

Really nice, quaint. I like how small it feels and the staff are always a pleasure. I've sat at the bar the last three times and had something different every time, but always chicken & a side or two. Looking forward to trying the patio soon too..

Delicious! Many restaurants in Charlottesville are overrated. This is not one of them. Great food, wine, and service. Especially Chef Sam!

Fantastic meal with kind friendly service. The collards, pickles, salad, and polenta were outstanding and the chicken was moist and flavorful. One whole chicken was plenty for our party of four. Easily one of our best meals in Charlottesville so far. Highly recommended.

Great food; friendly and professional staff. Far more than 'just a chicken place', even though chicken is the only entree on the menu. Think of it as a wonderful starting point for fine appetizers, sides, and desserts.
