Classic halal cart type meal
I absolutely love Box’d!! I’ve been going here for years now and never had a bad experience once! They are always super consistent on not only the food but the service! I’ve never dined in, always to-go or doordashed however whenever I pick up it’s always so cute and quaint inside. I get the lamb wrap most of the time however the lamb and rice with a salad is a great option for dinner! Also let’s be SO real, the portion sizes are well worth the price! 10/10 always recommended Box’d!!

Just go. You’ll thank me later 😉
We stopped by Box’d Kitchen after a long day at UVA camp, and it was the best choice. My son had lamb, I had chicken, and my husband tried the steak — all flavorful and satisfying. Prices were so reasonable it almost felt unfair, and the owner’s kindness made us feel right at home. Too delicious to even pause for photos — trust me, you won’t regret it. We’ll definitely be back!

It was my birthday yesterday, so we decided to take the train to Charlottesville and arrived in time for breakfast. Our day was full and we were tired. So after spending the entire day walking in the heat and not wanting to miss our train back home, we searched for a place to order food to go. We were not very hungry but knew we would be a few hours later on the train. There were several places within a short walking distance from the station, we decided we didn't want anything fried or smelly to eat on the train, so we discovered Box'd Kitchen. Walking in the air condition hit us with a much need welcome. It was clean and there were a few tables. The menu wasn't extensive to say the least, not a bad thing, actually quite refreshing. We ordered one Gyro Lamb Wrap and one Grilled Chicken Wrap, with two waters to go. The young man taking our order was very pleasant and attentive. The wraps were quickly assembled and we were on our way. Our train wouldn't arrive for another 2 hours but we were okay with eating the wraps cold. With one more hour to wait for the train the smell of the wraps were too enticing so we decided to eat them on a bench. OMG! Who would have guessed the flavors. The were delicious and overflowing with the protein and the spice level was just right “normal” IYKYK. We regret that we didn't eat the wraps when they were freshly made as they would have been so much more tastier.

I don’t think the worker cares about anything!
I didn’t order any sauce just basmati rice and she charged me for it.

Nothing special: rice and a choice of protein. Fastfood.

Simple and delicious. I used to call them “cheap” (in a good way) or “the best bang for your buck” place, but inflation sucks 🥲

Great Find! Fresh, Flavorful, and Fast!
I recently tried Boxed Kitchen and was really impressed. The food was fresh, perfectly portioned, and full of flavor. I had the lam over rice & salad and it was absolutely delicious —a little spicy but still satisfying.
The service was quick and friendly, and the packaging was super convenient for takeout. I also appreciated the variety of healthy options on the menu.
Highly recommend it if you’re in the area!
I have gone to Box’d about 1-2 times per month since early in the pandemic. My last time there was last week. Always order the same thing (lamb over rice and salad, normal) for carry out. Probably a good sign that I genuinely like the place. But the quality of the food has gotten very spotty over the past year or so. About half the time, either the lamb or rice ends up overcooked. The lamb is the problem more often than the rice — when the lamb is overcooked, it ends up crunchy on the outside with an unpleasant taste and texture. You can tell by looking at it, so it’s the sort of thing that should be obvious to staff. When it’s cooked well, it’s really delicious. The place just needs better quality control to deliver a more consistent product.
The staff always has the worst attitude. Nothing looks like it ever gets cleaned and the food is mediocre at best.
Edit: Lamb options are halal.
As of January 2025
They don't have any halal certificate food items.
I hope soon they'll take our request into consideration.
Delicious food, great service! Grab a box and head over to DB for a great meal! (although I dined in... next time.)
