If you live in Charlottesville and you don’t have Con Mole at the TOP of your list of amazing restaurants - what are you doing? The fact that other places are “booked solid” every night and this place has a table to spare is wild to me. They recommend 2 people start off with 4 entrees to share! This is not listed on their website! Be prepared to pay double for your meal than the menu would suggest. It was ok but you can get much better food at that price range.
On what is sure to be the first of many visits to their covered patio, I had to try the classic mole negro. Our server was kindly informative, even to an ignoramus like myself, so if you’re unfamiliar with Oaxacan food, fear not! The mole negro is served generously—more like a soup than a sauce—and it is not sweet, rather deep, bitter, and spicy. The lamb barbacoa was delicious but I’m happy I ordered the mole negro.
