Most authentic Mexican I have found in Charlottesville! Cozy spot with a friendly staff! Laura was absolutely amazing!! The menu can be a little intimidating as it is in Spanish but Laura walked me through all the dishes with detailed descriptions. Plates are great for sharing. We got empanadas, steak and the barbacoa. We also had margaritas to drink. Everything was SO GOOD! We will definitely be back!
I am from central Mexico, so I have a preference for spicy red mole with yellow rice, but also enjoy mole poblano. Having said that, I visited Conmole with open an mind, and I was excited to try the regional varieties from Oaxaca. We ordered empanadas, tamales, mole de frijol negro, and mole juagillo. My favorite was the mole de juagillo, but the absolute star of the night was the tamal de huitlacoche. I thoroughly enjoyed the complexity of flavors, the texture and the sauce....
A wonderful and flavorful journey. Our service was prompt, kind, and very helpful. I'd suggest one or two dishes per person you have at the table. The dishes are so packed with flavor you will leave happy regardless of how much you order.
