Having spent the majority of my study time at UVA in various cafes in an attempt to try them all this place tops the list. The friendliest service, best pastry’s and great coffee!

What a lovely bakery! Tucked on the side of a shopping center, you’d never know it’s there. Everything I tried was fabulous, the staff were friendly and unpretentious, and the shop gets beautiful morning light which creates a cozy vibe to enjoy your coffee and a pastry.

Cou Cou Rachou is a phenomenal French bakery in Cville run by women — it’s adorable and quaint, smells like expensive butter, and the pastries are delicious!
They have a spacious outdoor patio in the warmer months as well!

The atmosphere and the service is great. We got a bunch of sweet pastries and most of them were good, though none of them were exceptional and justified the higher price of pastries you usually buy in a coffee shop around.
The reason for the one star review is that the miso tahini blondie tasted salty-sour with a distinct flavor of sour sesame and no sweetness to it. When I tried to send it back to get a different pastry instead and pay the difference the manager did not accept it saying that "Sesame is the main ingredient to it". I tried to explain to her that growing up in the Middle East I had plenty of tahini and sesame sweets and salty treats in my days, this blondie is lacking sweetness and tastes bad. She still did not accept me sending it back. This honestly deeply impacted my experience and I just wanted to leave after. I definitely will not come back after this unaccommodating experience.

My wife and I have fond memories of working at the University of Virginia (UVA) and living in Charlottesville a few years ago. We often return to visit the campus, which remains a vibrant hub of activity and beauty. During our visits, we’ve explored many local spots, but one culinary gem stands out: **Cou Cou Rachou**.
Having traveled to France several times, we appreciate the unique charm of French cafés and bistros. Cou Cou Rachou captures that essence beautifully, offering an authentic bakery experience that rivals any we’ve encountered abroad. Every item we’ve tried has been nothing short of delicious, making it a must-visit for anyone in the area.
**Pastries and Coffee**
The pastries are undoubtedly the star of the show at Cou Cou Rachou. From flaky croissants to decadent tarts, each bite transports you to a Parisian café. In addition to their pastries, they serve excellent coffee that perfectly complements the treats. A personal favorite is the *Sourdough English Muffin **, which is perfect to take home for later—trust me, you won’t regret it!
In summary, if you find yourself in Charlottesville, make sure to visit Cou Cou Rachou for an exceptional bakery experience. Whether you’re reminiscing about your time at UVA or simply enjoying a day in this charming city, this café is a delightful stop that will leave you craving more.

When they say come early, they mean it.
The restaurant is a classic French bakery located that specializes in using locally sourced ingredients to make delicious bites that will transport you to the old world.
I couldn’t believe at 8 AM in the morning on a weekday this place was packed and orders were being served without hesitation.
Now the COFFEE SODA has changed my life! A mix of cold brew, club soda and syrup (I chose lavender) it’s perfect alternative to a nitro cold brew. It gave me a coffee buzz and the kick I needed to start my day.

Great pastries, great coffee, had an iced mocha and it was delicious. Comfortable outdoor seating in a quiet parking lot.
Good pastries. But the staff are often not in a good mood or could be even rude.

My family and I had an absolutely delightful experience at this charming spot! The service was exceptional, with the staff being incredibly kind and friendly. We sampled a variety of pastries and a slice of cake, all of which were delicious. The iced green tea, iced latte, and hot americano were all top-notch. The space itself is very cute, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend!
