The premiere steak house located in Charlottesville, Virginia, opened in 1998 and delighted patrons with its inviting atmosphere, quality service, and a menu that remained true to tradition while also presenting innovative dishes. The Downtown Grille closed in March of 2020, unable to weather the looming financial burden COVID-19 would place on it. I was a server there for the last several years of its operation. I thank all of the guests that dined at the Downtown Grille, and I wish you all many fantastic restaurant experiences.

Entered near eleven, it wasn't packed. Looking forward to a return visit. Food and atmosphere reminds me of Kansas City.

Downtown Grill, the clean white table cloth steak and seafood spot of the downtown mall. Upon entering The Downtown Grill we realized how spacious this restaurant is. Plenty of room for larger parties, tables of two or bar spacing for someone/a group that wants to watch a game.

Great restraunt, with very good food, nice atmosphere, pleasant employees. I will definitely go again if ever in Charlottesville.

I'm a fairly simple man. If a bone-in filet is on the menu, I'm ordering it. 100 out of 100 times. This one did not disappoint - in fact it was probably one of the best I have ever had and cooked perfectly. Wife also thoroughly enjoyed her filet as well. The brussels sprouts are to die for and I'm now stuck with the challenge of recreating them at home. Service was fast and friendly and their signature old fashioned is outstanding as well. All in all one of the best dining experiences we have had - and not just in Charlottesville!

Everything started out great! Excellent greeting by the staff, Robert my server was very attentive to my dining experience. Calamari was fine with a slightly spicy dip on the side. Ceasar salad was fine with anchioves extra pepper made it just right. All was fine until they brought out my 16oz ribeye steak. I wish i had thought of taking a picture of this poor steak that this fine steakhouse had the nerve to serve me. It looked cold, old and black. As I contemplated this poor piece of meat I was reminded of a dead bat. It seemed like it was cooked medium as I requested but only in the center, the edges were definetly well done. Very, very poor flavor. I took a few bites and I just quit. I could not enjoy this no matter how hard I tried. I've had a better ribeye at Longhorns, Outback, Texas Roadhouse. When I told my server that I was not satisfied he gave me a free dessert and cappacino. Thanks. Unfortunately what was supposed to be the best part of the meal was absolutely the worst. Great place for Salad, Dessert, Water, bread and coffee but NOT for a 16oz ribeye.

The service and food were excellent and about right for the price. Filet and Strip steaks were very good. Side dishes were actually the highlight though. The Mac and cheese was a unique mix of cheeses on a go-to comfort food, the mashed carrot casserole was divine, the sherry-infused green beans also were great. Cheesecake for dessert but the spot. Great by the glass wine list.

Service was excellent. In our party of five, three ordered the filet mignon cooked medium rare but were cooked medium, one in particular was nearly well. Urged them to send back but they did not. Disappointing when you are at a restaurant known for its beef and are paying on the high side.

This place never disappoints! Always exceptional service, delicious food with great presentation, always on time for our reservations with good seating. Micheal remembered it was my husbands 50th birthday and his military retirement right after seating us which really impressed my husband and surprised him. We had a great dinner and just love this place! Your wine selection and drinks are incredible and you even had Chartreuse, his favorite drink. The surf and turf is always a hit! Excellent place!

We were excited about going back to downtown grille, but found sometimes it can be hit or miss. My husband had to ask for salt for his lamb which came out over done. The wait staff was fantastic though and the ambiance was nice.

My husband and I had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner. No cheesy prix fix menu, just delicious food and amazing service. And they didn’t rush us out - we could sit and talk and enjoy.

I made a reservation for Valentine's Day and the DG called and asked if I wanted roses at the table. What a great convenience, I was able to check another item off the list. Thanks, DG team The food was phenomenal, the ambiance was perfect and the drinks were exceptional. It was a fantastic way to spend the first Valentine's Day with my second wife.

Change is not always good. It's been a few years since I've come here and it may be a while before we come back. The atmosphere is always great here but the change to the menu was surprising. The wait staff was very courteous and friendly. The menus of past were more inclusive to taste pallets than the current one. The experience wasn't bad, it was just a certain item that was on the menu for years was no longer served. An expensive experience for my wife and I when I was the only one to find something to eat on the menu. Hey, at least I still have my past experiences to reflect on from here.

Our favorite location in Downtown Grille is the bar area in one of the raised booths by the windows. We can see foot traffic on the Mall yet enjoy the activity in the bar area. The food is always fabulous; the service is always professional with a fun twist; and the ambiance is the best! We loved the subtle music, just enough soft jazz to make it a truly wonderful evening.
