Hamiltons' at First & Main

We had a great experience. The blue crab corn soup was fantastic and my ravioli dish was one of the best pasta dishes I have had. Service was also first rate.

The food here was absolutely fantastic. However, it is extremely loud and the guitar player was good but very distracting. The service was average, at best. The hostess came up to us as we were eating our appetizer and asked if we had a reservation or were walk-ins even though we clearly stated that we had reservations when we checked in and she brought us to our table. She later dropped a glass on the table next to us and glass flew everywhere. Strange service all around.

Our Server was AWESOME but the wait for everything was far too long. We were there during the lunch rush, I get it. But we waiting a while for our order to be taken and the food took far too long to come. I was entertaining VIP donors, and while they understood, I could tell they were befuddled, since I had made such a fuss about Hamiltons.

Service was uncharacteristically slow, and somewhat forgetful, despite being pleasantly solicitous. A 3.5 hr dinner, without dessert, with a long interval between apps and mains. Happily, we were with close friends, having a great time, and didn't notice/mind the time passing.

Service was slow based on the number of patrons in the restaurant. The food was incredible...kudos to the chef.

Complelety average. Service was slow, even on a night when there were several empty tables. The food was nothing to remember. The mussels were under seasoned and the broth bitter, not great. The shrimp and grits were cooked and seasoned well, but nothing in the dish warranted the $$.

Hamilton's remains one of the better fine dining options in Charlottesville. Our entrees and dinks were both excellent. Both the crab-corn chowder & almond cake were very good. Service was prompt and efficient but not overbearing. We highly recommend it.

We were a group of four guys visiting Charlotteville for a football/golf weekend and decided to try Hamiltons. Were all very impressed. Menu is not large, but had a number of choices tha each of us had a hard time deciding between. Great service and the restaraunt had a good vibe too it. Not too noisy, not to sophisticated but felt very comfortable. The crabcakes were great. Enjoyed the PEI mussells, ravioli, crab and corn chedder soup. All good. Would highly recommend it. Not cheap, but a fair price for the quality.

Vegetarian Blue Plate Special is always delicious and changes regularly. Very pleasant atmosphere for inside and outside seating. One of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. The downtown mall location makes it easily accessible when heading to entertainment venues.

Having dined at Hamiltons' before when visiting Charlottesville, we chose it again for a celebratory dinner for six. We were very impressed with the menu. Not only are there many meatless choices, but also they are made and presented with the same care and expertise as the rest. Among us, we had meat, fish, and vegetarian choices; all were delicious and attractively prepared. Our server was friendly and professional. The place was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday evening - we may have benefited from the U-Va football game occurring at the exact same time. You may not be so lucky. But you won't need luck to experience a terrific meal - it comes with the territory.
