Kabuto on Pantops is simply one of our favorite restaurants of all time. The food is so delicious and well made, prepared with love. We love the kind, amazing, talented people who work there, and will continue to frequent the place. Everything on the menu is exquisite, we have never tried something we did not enjoy. It is the perfect comfort food, or fine dining specialty, and can fit whatever mood you may have. We are very lucky and grateful to have this restaurant in the area!

Was looking for a place that had good cooked sushi but when I found this place, I opted for the hibachi instead. It was really good ! Im a visitor for the week in Charlottesville and I'm glad I found this place.

Low key place that was really good. Tuna tataki was on point and the sushi was really good. Small place, big taste.

We ate here on a Thursday night for our son's 15th birthday. It was so good! Excellent service and food. The hibachi was delicious -- smoky and peppery and the veggies were cooked perfectly. It came with really delicious soup that I haven't had other places, some kind of mushroom broth that was so good. And the waiter was very friendly. Rolls were also really good. Can't say enough good!

In town for a conference. order lunch sushi 3 roll.. disappointing... mostly rice, very little filling. the roll was the thickness of a finger.. I could taste no filling at all.. Ive been eating sushi most of my adult life and I have NEVER had anything this bad...waste of $20 which included a $3 tip.. sad... I would not return.. I should have known when the place had 2 people at the peak of lunch hour...

Small place in Pantops. Hibachi was fine, but got the sushi deluxe which is chef’s choice. All the fish was bland, an indicator that it wasn’t fresh, and the salmon had a fishy odor that you could smell immediately upon opening the container, which indicates it’s gone bad. Didn’t even eat that.

It's a good, quick place, for sushi. Selection is intense, we did the 3 roll specials, and every bite was delicious. Great lunch spot.

Kabuto is exactly what you hope for when you pull up to a Japanese spot tucked into a Pantops strip mall—nothing fancy, but solid food that delivers. The décor inside isn’t winning any awards, but let’s be real: you're not here for the ambiance. You’re here for well-seasoned hibachi and sushi that hits the spot without breaking the bank.
I highly recommend the chicken and steak combo with rice—everything was cooked just right, and the sweet sauce paired perfectly with the fried rice. Sushi-wise, the California, M16, and UVA rolls were all excellent. The eel on the UVA roll was sticky, sweet, and straight-up addicting.
Also worth mentioning: the miso soup was light and refreshing, a nice way to start the meal. All in all, Kabuto is a great go-to if you're craving Japanese food on this side of town.

Ordered California Roll, Steak and Chicken dinner. Sushi was underwhelming. Small portions and bland. Ordered steak medium rare, it was past well done. Asked for extra sauce with the chicken and steak, the meat was just about dry as a bone. The only liquid looks like it came from the vegetables. The side sauce was good, but that was most of the flavor of my meal. Good fried rice. Good vegetables. Salad was okay - not too flavorful on the dressing, soup was okay - salty and hot but nothing too special. Overall the meal is missing some bolder flavors. For the price I probably wouldn't come here again.

Without a doubt the best hibachi in town. Great takeout and very relaxed dine in experience. We always ask ourselves why we don't go here more often after we grab some dinner here.
