This is my absolute favorite place to eat at UVA! The staff is sweet, the service is great, and the food tastes amazing! The prices are nice and I always find myself coming back here:)

This place is often very full with customers and the ambience/appearance is pretty nice and somewhat modern. Unfortunately my ramen was very mediocre. I’ve never had a drier/overcooked pork belly, and they give large portions of meat so that may be good or bad depending on your preference. The noodles were pretty similar to store brand quality-wise and the broth had zero flavor other than chicken (i ordered the shoyu which is pretty hard to miss on). Service was courteous and quick

I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Mashumen. While the food was good and satisfied the craving, the service is what would bring me back. The staff is genuinely kind and makes you feel right at home. It's great to have a spot in C-ville where the team is so consistently friendly.

4 star restaurant. As far as the restaurants in the area serving similar food, I would say 4 out of 5 is plenty. We had two sushi rolls that were fantastic, but everything else was just ok. Fried chicken - ok, Dumplings - ok, kids sushi plates - ok. Samurai Roll - Amazing. Fantasy Roll - Delicious.

After going to Japan the ramen is as close as it gets in the states. For a hole-in-the-wall in Charlottesville it’s honestly above and beyond. The spicy miso is my favorite in particular, often getting the karage or Ika as an app. The sushi is like fine but the show stopper is the ramen. Definitely worth a try!
