Wine is good but the personnel are so rude. We literally walked out without drinking anything this time. Oh also should add they were dog UNfirendly unlike all the other wineries around here seem to be. Miss the old thatch before this jerk took over.

Loved the wine, the vineyard ambiance and the employees. Superior experience.

Had a great tasting experience at Michael Shaps. We came with our friends from Charlottesville, who were members of their club.
We did the deluxe tasting, which covered the majority of their offerings. All the wines were delicious, and our server was friendly and informative.
The winery itself is beautiful, plenty of outdoor space to relax and enjoy the wines. There is even a Tesla charging station if you need a charge while you are touring.
Definitely make Michael Shaps a priority for your next wine tour!

No Bordeaux style wines, an outside deck, on a beautiful day, unkempt, mold, flies, and absolutely no view, also no wine customers except us. Would totally suggest Jefferson and Mt Ida in the same region of wine country ❤️ Views and better ? ?!!

Wine is very good, however the customer service at Michael Shaps winery is horrendous. They act like you are an inconvenience and interrupting their day. Christie Schaps specifically is very rude and condescending.

Do not waste your money here, there are dozens of great wineries in the area.

This place was much better before they expanded and bought Thatch. Been there twice afterwards, there won't be a third time. Very limited selection for tasting or by the glass. Employee was very condescending, pretentious and slightly arrogant. He stated if you knew anything about Michael Shaps, you'd know all his wines are good. Wines change from year to year, there's always subtle profile changes. Not willing to spend $40 to see if I even like the wine. He seemed to be more concerned about our employment, and not our wine preferences. We were with another couple, they felt the same way. We didn't feel welcomed here. And the $40 was the average price of a bottle of wine, not for a tasting as the reply indicates.

wine was good. Wine tasting was expensive . For 5 wines the price was 20 dollars per tasting . The pours were very small. We did buy 2 bottles of wine because wine was tasty

We arrived there and was told a tasting was only indoors. We were not asked how we wanted to proceed and were charged for two $20 tastings, which was not only the most expensive tasting we had during our time here, but was also the least amount of wine we received. The fact that we were not even asked was annoying enough. Given the fact that we were paying $40 for a few ounces of wine, I asked if I could try two of my other favorites. I was told that “those were not open for tasting.” This was another first along our journey. Overall, I would not return and not recommend to others.

We just came here to do a tasting since google said they’re open until 5pm and noticed there was a wedding setting up. My sister asked someone if they were open for tastings in the tasting room still and they said yes. So the rest of us came in to the bar where a wonderfully abrasive and rude man in a canary yellow shirt asked how can I help you and said “we’re closed for a wedding”. And when we mentioned that someone literally just told us we still had 30 min he repeated “we’re closed for a wedding” with a really bad attitude and sarcastically added “but have a good day though” and continued on with whatever he was doing. No telling us when we could’ve come back, oh apologies for the confusion, nothing. We’re completely fine w the closure but communicate like an adult with manners, didn’t think that was something we’d have to deal with here. Won’t be back.

Incredibly friendly staff. The wine has won many awards and it shows!

Every wine is produced well and from a wide variety of grapes. These wines are vinified dry and the tasting room staff are knowledgeable as well as friendly. This is a must stop if you’re curious about quality Virginia wine.
Note: dogs and children are discouraged in the tasting room

Number 1. The wine was amazing. Kevin helped us pick a great dessert wine that accommodated my husbands sweet taste buds. We had the awesome meat and cheese plate while sitting outside on the wooded deck. 2. Speaking with Kevin was awesome because he went to school where I did and we had a lot in common and a lot to talk about. He was the kindest man who knew exactly what we needed. We came to Thatch winery when it was in business in 2019. We made another 4.5 hour trip to visit our favorite place, only to find it has been bought out.. by amazing people! We enjoyed our time here 1000x more than when we visited the previous ownership, and will recommend it to anyone coming down this way. Thank you, Kevin!
