What a big disappointment. Today my husband, 11 month old daughter and I walked to this shop from the Virginia Discovery Museum, excited to have cappuccinos and some pastry. We arrived around noon, and there was a closed sign on the door. It looks like they are shut down. In speaking to others, the word is that Paradox is no longer going to do retail business. They didn't bother to update their website. Tonight I called the phone number on their website, curious to see if there's a message about their hours, or if they are no longer doing retail business. After many rings, an automated message with a static noise in the background said "please enter your remote access code." It is not the way to run a business.

Please consider the following business In truth I actually enjoy this place but they need to fix a couple problems. The most import is that the cashiers have a habit of touching the food from the case with their bare hands - please consider using utensils, gloves of paper to transfer food items to plate or box. Secondly (not a good safety issue) you should plan for extra customer facing support during weekend market hours; it would speed up service and increase sales. If you'd like

The staff was very friendly. Coffee was good but the food …….. I had a spinach cheese quiche which was given to me lukewarm and asked to have it warmed up, which they did. My granddaughter had a chocolate croissant which was very cold and had very little chocolate in it. The pumpkin cheesecake crust was very dry and falling apart. The apple turnover tasted more like thick applesauce. The other food was just ok. (we had a party of 6) My son commented that this place use to be very good but something has definitely changed. (And not for the better) maybe it was just an off day.

This is a great place to stop for breakfast or just a treat. You can't go wrong with any of the options here. The pastries are fantastic. They have seating inside & outdoors as well as a loft area. We were comfortable upstairs even with our young kids with us. There's easy parking nearby in the garage and within walking distance from the downtown mall.

Delicious with a capital "D"! The young lady was so enthusiastic as we entered. The food was so yummy it was hard to choose. I had the breakfast croissant and my husband chose the huge breakfast breakfast, both so flavorful We shared the maple croissant with the drizzle. I almost licked the plates. With our food we had coffee freshly brewed and really good. Best Mother's Day breakfast I have had! Thank you.

I've been meaning to check this place out and finally got the chance to. Sad I waited so long after moving here a year ago. What a yummy and inviting spot located in the heart of Cville with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Cozy inside and fantastic customer service as I was greeted as soon as I walked in. They have great coffee and an array of sweet and savory fresh baked goodies on display for you to drool at and choose from. I ordered a hot coffee along with a croissant Sammy with bacon warmed up which was so good! The right amount of flaky pastry on the outside along with a chewy inside. The egg has cream and cheddar cheese folded in and they also offered a herb flavored one. Fun music with a sitting room loft warmly lite upstairs which I will be sure to check out my next visit!

They actually have some vegan options! I tried the vegan apple cider doughnut, and it was actually really good, coming close to the quality of Carters Mountain. A little expensive is the only thing, the item not being too much food for an alright price. Also, btw, this might have only been me, but this is not a coffee place, they have some limited options (an expresso machine, some shendoha does drip coffee) but that's all.

I got hooked on the multigrain triple berry muffin. So good. Loaded with berries and the combination of corn meal and whole grains was perfect. The staff are cheerful and the owner is welcoming and fun.

Jenny was extremely helpful in designing our geode wedding cake! About a month before our wedding, we had to change cake plans, and Paradox Pastry was a life saver! They were responsive, and were able to bring to life our geode cake vision in time for our August 2021 wedding. Also the cake flavor of Dark Chocolate Cake with Irish Cream Mousseline/Buttercream and Dark Chocolate Ganache was so scrumptious!

Super duper awesome place. Visiting from Florida… loved the vibe here, kind service, and the food was on POINT! ✨

As longtime lovers of EVERYTHING at Paradox, picking our cake baker was one of the easiest decisions we made for our wedding. We had four large cakes in lieu of a special decorated wedding cake, wanting to have a variety of flavor options for our guests as well as gluten-free options.  Paradox's process for ordering cakes is so easy and readily customizable, and there are so many delicious flavor options to choose from.  And the gluten-free cakes are the same price as the regular cakes for the same size - amazing!!  We served a vanilla cake with maple cream cheese frosting that was a huge hit with our guests, a chocolate-chocolate ganache cake, a gluten free chocolate with espresso buttercream, and a gluten free vanilla with lemon buttercream and raspberry jam filling.  Everything was delicious and our guests loved the variety.  Love Paradox!
