Tavern & Grocery offers a refined yet welcoming dining experience. The atmosphere is elegant and relaxed, with soft music and warm lighting.
The food is outstanding. They focus on seasonal ingredients, beautifully presention, and full of flavor. Service is attentive and professional without being overbearing.
Perfect for a date night or special occasion. One of Charlottesville’s best spots for elevated dining.

The food was great...everything else about the experience was terrible. The evening my wife and I went here they had clearly overbooked the restaurant for an event on the main floor and did not have enough wait staff to cover. When we first arrived, we were told to go downstairs and then were not shown to our table. After 5 minutes of waiting awkwardly I eventually went to the bar to get told where to sit. We then waited 15 minutes before anyone even came to our table to greet us, followed by a 40 minute wait for anyone else to come take our order. This happened to several tables around us too. The service was so nonexistent that the 2 tables next to us actually got up and left before ever being waited on because it took so long. Overall, I was shocked and appalled by the experience. I shouldn't have to get up and go pour my own water at a restaurant when I'm dropping $120 dollars on dinner for 2. I would expect better service at a packed out sportsbar on a game day. There are a lot of good dining options in Charlottesville so I would recommend skipping this place.

We loved Tavern and Grocery! We stumbled upon it near our hotel and went back two more times over the weekend for a nightcap. Great food, cocktails, service, and ambience!

Immaculate ambiance! The staff all around - from the hostess, to the waitress, bartender, and owner - were incredible, kind and personable. Not to mention, the food and cocktails are the best you’ll eat and drink around here. Every dish is well presented and served. This was my first time here and I look forward to coming back in the future! Everything about this restaurant makes you feel at home!

We got food from Tavern & Grocery but was seated in the Lost Saint area. The decor was super cute and vintage. Cocktails was decent. We went during restaurant week so they got fixed menu. Gotta say that the brussel sprouts were absolutely amazing. The rest was okay, at most. The salmon covered with black and white sesame seeds was just a bit extra. The sesame seeds were too strong and indecent of the salmon taste. The olive cake with berries was a bit dry. Service was also slow

Excellent cocktails with more adventurous cocktail options available downstairs. Wonderful service, delightful decor and atmosphere. We got the cauliflower and the pappardelle with duck confit and the olive oil cake. Everything was light and well seasoned, totally delicious. We’ll be back!

We had a great experience here. Brought a large group of about 25 of us to dine. With that many people you hope for consistency in the meals and they delivered. Food was great. Staff were great and the owner was very friendly. If you get a chance to get downstairs the cocktails are exceptional 🤫

Service and the restaurant was superb. However, service downstairs in the speakeasy was dreadful.

My wife and me came out to Tavern and Grocery during restaurant week to celebrate her getting a new job the service was abysmal the waitress we had obviously didn't want to be there and while the food was somewhat yummy it didn't wow me or my wife, and the worst thing of all was the price we have never spent 150.00 for mediocre food. We will not be back ever again. We will tell people to stay away. Avoid this place like the plague you can find another joint to eat at and spend less money

I went during restaurant week to celebrate a big win in my life. I was expecting an amazing food experience. Something different. Sadly, that wasn’t the case tonight. The food was ok. Standard fair. Salmon with sesame seeds on top with a slightly richer mash potato and bok choi. The bruschetta wasn’t as satisfying to eat, and the dessert was standard fair. Blackberry cobbler with ice cream. Our drinks were also late. The only good thing was our server was kind enough to tend to us outside. $149 for dinner for two with tip and drink for an ‘ok’ dinner. Not worth it.
