Forty-eight years ago, at the Virginian, my wife and I had our first date. We recently returned. In the meantime she has developed food allergies. We asked the Server if they could cook a grilled cheese for her in a separate frying pan. She checked and said they could not because they did not have a frying pan. Having worked in five restaurants, I never knew of one that did not have a frying pan. Further, it was an open kitchen and we saw a frying pan on a stove as we left. Clearly not the place to go if you have food allergies.

I was expecting a little more from the oldest restaurant in Charleston. I had a club sandwich. It was OK but it’s OK not too expensive clean

Great casual place with delicious pub food and more. lively atmosphere. You may have to wait 10 - 15 minutes, but it was worth it. service was excellent.

We really enjoyed our visit to Charlottesville and our stop at The Virginian. The food was a highlight of the trip! The barbecue pork sandwich was excellent, as were both the Caesar and house salads—fresh and flavorful. The Virginia burger with fries was also very good.

We were excited to try the Palmetto cheese burger and the Palmetto cheese sandwich, but unfortunately, they didn’t quite meet our expectations. They weren’t our favorites. The seasoned fries got mixed reviews—some of us enjoyed the bold flavor, while others found them a bit too spicy.

The root beer floats were a big hit—absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, which made the overall experience even better.

Good food. Frenetic, inefficient service, though very friendly. Smelly, messy bathroom. The stars here are the kitchen staff. They hustle! Potato cake was waaay overdone.

Were there on a week day for procedure at the hospital, and wanted walking distance quick lunch. Several people greeted us as they rushed past with full arms and didn't leave us just waiting. Super nice staff, mostly young college kids. Not a lot of seating but great food, quick staff, and not over priced. Will stop in after our next visit!

Good songs, good food, good service. They try hard to understand your language and are understanding. The food is very filling and delicious. It's welcoming.

A corner tradition! The burger is had brought back amazing memories from my college days. The staff was efficient. I remember back in my college days having bartenders that engaged their customers discussing life, UVA, and the corner. I miss the days of Coy Barefoot for sure.

Wheelchair accessibility: Difficult but not impossible, one table might accommodate a wheelchair without blocking off egress.

Still very reminiscent of a bar and restaurant founded in the early 1900’s. The atmosphere was very good. Has an upper and lower level. The food is amazing! Great choices. Our food came out hot, fast, and correct. Service at first was very good. It tapered off after our food was served. There are a few TV’s, but not considered a sports bar. Price was reasonable at about $30 a person. We did not partake in any drink specials. Dinner menu starts at 5PM.

Parking: This is a restaurant on UVA campus and close to the medical center. The garage is close with about a 10 minute walk to the restaurant.

Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly. Not a main student hang out.

Wheelchair accessibility: Somewhat wheelchair accessible. It’s a long narrow restaurant.

Whenever I come to the Virginian, I know I am in for a good time. I have come in the morning with my family for brunch, in the afternoon for a beer, and in the evening to stand on a booth and dance.
Today was no different. Because of the snow day, I came in with my friends to hangout and enjoy the afternoon. My server, Emily, could not have been more warm and inviting. I am so thankful I have found this place. I understand why it has been around for 100 years.

I ordered soup for takeout last week, which tasted fine. The problem was they charged me for a tip, which I did not authorize. Handing over a bowl of soup in a plastic bag doesn't warrant a tip for service. Adding a charge that a customer has not authorized, in contrast, constitutes petty theft.
