Hanks is a place where you can find the community in a bar and I absolutely love it! I’ve been here twice and if it wasn’t for the people I met outside or at the bar I probably wouldn’t have came back because the service from the bartenders doesn’t match the amazing energy of the people. I’m not going to say that it’s a racial issue but it’s definitely an issue I’ve noticed that when I walk in with my partner and friend we get stared down and looked at uninvitedly and it’s not the best feeling when you just want to come in and really enjoy the vibe you get from the community.The experience that I received from the bartenders twice now, is why I’m leaving a review because the atmosphere itself is very nice but the service from the two female bartenders made me not want to come back, it had me wanting to spend my money and time elsewhere, but like I mentioned it’s the community “fellowship” of the people that had us wanting to stay.

Ordered one beer and a shot. Was charged for 7 beers and 4 shots. When I questioned it they would not give me my card back until I signed the tab. Will never go again. Beware of being overcharged !!!!!

This lil slice of heaven was an absolute joy to visit. a scene of art and great food. With prestine pool tables for your enjoyment ..the smell in the air was pleasant and clean..each item on the walls where just as clean..staff was nice informative and helpful..the owner was just as great I thoroughly enjoyed my time there..so if your looking for a nice bar atmosphere with great amenities this is the place for you..run don't walk to this neglectic bar...

Karaoke was great. I was able to sing 4 or 5 songs. Some really good singers! 2 or three different DJ's all did a good job keeping the music playing.

Hanks has always been one of my favorite haunts. However, they have a new bartender, Kat. I can tell you (as I’ve spent decades The restaurant business, most of those years spent as a bar manager) this young lady is an artist! My friends and I spent most of the night simply saying ‘make us something fun’. She has an arsenal of crazy drinks up her sleeve, great personality, and is quickly becoming my favorite bartender in Hampton Roads. If you haven’t been to Hanks, you need to get in here! Great food (especially the pork bbq), great drinks, and the perfect place to hide away from adult responsibilities for a few hours at a time!

Just drank here...and the beers were plenty cold. Everyone real friendly, they have daily specials, couple pool tables, couple dart board. Inexpensive too for both food and drink.
