My wife and I enjoyed a delightful breakfast and coffee. They make their own bagels and they are really good. Ours were fresh out of the oven ... warm with a nice crunch to the crust.
We got a tasty lesson on the differences between hot coffee and cold brewed from Richard the chef/owner. He and his wife Lucinda are warm and welcoming hosts.
Ther cafe is easy to find amongst all the businesses near Oak Grove Park. The folks who work around there have been writing rave reviews and the meal and hospitality lived up to those reviews.
We'll be going back.

Honestly, I just go here for the cheap food and good coffee. It's location is out of the way of the hustle and bustle of city life. Allowing one to slip into their own world while getting stuffed on their food.

This place is amazing, the people we're incredibly friendly and it was a nice homely feeling. It's in a odd spot but don't let that stop you from coming here everything was DELICIOUS.

I went to this hidden gem on my lunch break today and I was not disappointed. The service was amazing. The staff were friendly, the cafe was nice and clean, and the food was hot and fresh. I took advantage of their Thursday special; a chicken Philly sandwich. Now that I’m nice and full, it’s time to get back to work. When you have a chance, go check them out. You won’t be sorry 😉

A hidden gem. Happy we found it. The food was excellent, great quality ingredients. Attention to detail by the staff was superior; nothing was missing from our order for eight. We will absolutely be back!

Not as good as it used to be. I've been ordering from them since 2019 and recommended to everyone I worked with. Hashbrowns started getting delivered uncooked (cold and white). The chicken salad sandwich had hardly any chicken. One third of bites taken were just bread. On top of that, they started adding an eight dollar delivery fee to deliver to the business complex that they always delivered to! They're a stone's throw away! Will not be ordering anymore and will not ever recommend to coworkers again!

Island Cafe is an absolute treasure tucked inside an unassuming office building in the heart of Chesapeake, Virginia. Don’t let the location fool you—this place is pure magic. The food here rivals Michelin-level quality, but it’s served with hometown warmth, pride, and soul.
The daily specials are always inventive and deeply satisfying, the coffee is rich and robust, and the attention to detail in every dish is remarkable. What makes Island Cafe truly stand out, though, is the heart behind it. The head chef is not only a culinary talent, but also a veteran, engineer, father, and friend—someone who clearly pours love and intention into every plate.
The quality is top-tier, and the value is unbelievable. This isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience. A must-visit for locals and a worthy detour for anyone passing through. Chesapeake is lucky to have this place.

Usually, I order delivery from here (my office is right upstairs), but today, I went down to pick up my order. I'm glad I did! The staff was so welcoming and took the time to talk to me about cold brew coffee and hot coffee (even letting me sample the difference). I got a Southwest omelet wrap and a cold brew. They have never disappointed and live up to the same great flavor they've always had.
I've been coming here for two years, so I know the old owners, who have since retired. The new owners are still doing wonderful things down there for breakfast and lunch.
If you're looking for a little café to support, this is the one!

The food was good and reasonably priced, but the place was a little hard to find in the building.

Richard was so friendly. He went through the menu as it was my first time here. Prices are very reasonable. Philly cheesesteak combo 12 dollars and was delicious. Would highly recommend island Cafe. Will definitely be back

OMG, these people here are so inviting and knowledgeable about food. Every time I come in they school me about how things are made the ingredients and how it is processed and it’s very informative. I got to say you will enjoy yourself in this little cafe.

It was always great calling in and being able to hear my order taken via phone call. But the structure of the placing an order online, causing the price to go up which use to have such a reasonable price. The customer interaction on the phone was what made this place great, but not with the new takeover unfortunately.

What a great surprise tucked in an office space. Really love these secret gems popping up all over HR. Grabbed a quick breakfast and spoke with the owners. They have coffee options sourced from all over the world and a great food selection. Worth checking out!
