Ive had the pleasure of dining at the Channel Bass for Tea Service and dinner service several times. It is, without a doubt, the best meal on Chincoteague. The owners Kristen and Bill have done an outstanding job on the menus. Will always recommend the Channel Bass to anyone !
This was a disappointing afternoon tea, as the food was not great. It started with a tasty fall soup, but quickly went downhill with three lackluster sandwiches: the pumpernickel with cream cheese was soggy, and the "croissant" was not a croissant. The scone, which for me should be the highlight of the afternoon tea experience, was adequate; however, my darling husband lovingly selected the other scone brought to our table because it was flat, unrisen, and shapeless. The preserves offered were just an apple butter, no jam. The three sweets were similarly lackluster and disappointing: in particular, the pumpkin cake was soggy and flavorless. The tea selection was small but tasty, and the server was excellent. But because of the food, we won't be back.
We keep returning to the Channel Bass Inn every time we come to Chincoteague, and have always had a wonderful experience. This time, we attended the Oyster Festival which fell on our 45th Wedding Anniversary. We reserved a dinner at the Channel Bass for the following day to have an intimate celebration. Local flooding due to a storm led to the Inn cancelling for safety's sake, but we were set again for the following night. Turns out that it was piano night , which was a wonderful addition to our celebration. The food, as always was superb, (I had the pork ribeye, my wife had the flounder), service was spot on and attentive. Mark, the piano player added to the wonderful ambience, and we had some delightful conversations with him as well. It was a most memorable celebration, and we so look forward to returning!
Walkable from our hotel and a lovely little Inn. We chose the 5:30pm sitting. Fixed price menu was fantastic! Bought a lovely Malbec for my husband's birthday. Not sure what I liked most, the crab cake or scallop appetizer. The beef tenderloin was ammmmmazing. Our server Doug was wonderful - he even put a candle and happy birthday chocolate in the dessert. Would highly recommend and most definitely will return. Thanks for a wonderful night.
Amazing service, food, and piano player! This is our second year celebrating our anniversary here.
We have been coming to Chincoteague for years and had never made it to Channel Bass. This time we were celebrating a birthday, and based on recent reviews, decided to go. We were not disappointed! The fixed price dinner at $75 seemed a reasonable deal for its several courses and high quality compared to our DC prices for something similar. We both had beef tenderloin , so tender and cooked as we requested. The olive oil cake for dessert was super! Great salad and apps as well. Service was swift, knowledgeable and friendly, It was very quiet there on Friday eve in fall.
My husband and I went to eat here for the first time for our Anniversary last night, the food and service was absolutely amazing, we will be back very very soon. Thankyou for making our 9 year wedding Anniversary a special and memorable experience. ❤
Great experience and food was wonderful. Went on a Monday the piano playing was a great touch
Had a wonderful 1 night stay at Channel Bass. A beautiful place, very nice remodeled room that was spacious. The complimentary glass of wine was a very nice touch! Dottie even brought treats up for our pup! The breakfast was delicious 😋 Would definitely stay again! Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Channel Bass!
Friendly service, cute and homey.

We had such a lovely experience last night. From Mark playing piano to great service from Zeibe (sp?) and a great prix fixe menu, it was our best dining experience on the island. Highly recommended
We happened to dine July 7th for a 5 course perfectly executed dinner to celebrate my husbands upcoming birthday that also was piano night with Marc Jay who plays tunes from his heart. Each course was memorable and carefully presented with superb service by Doug and Zebee. Chef Bill really put a menu together that will last in our memories and tastebuds too. We are repeat customers and a must to restaurant when ever in Chincoteague. Thanks again CBI for being there on the island and always there for special occasions and memories.
Family of four on Saturday July 5th. The service, atmosphere, food, ambiance... all excellent. The overall experience was outstanding. Highly recommend. Our meal price was $75 each, includes tax, so my bill was $300 (plus the bottle of wine we ordered, and also enjoyed very much). The price is reasonable for the experience. Multiple courses and a preset menu were a dining experience the kids had not experienced before. Also, I am sure the set menu rotates depending on availability of items and ingredients. However, we were able to pick our protein, such as fish vs beef or chicken, and also select a side, rice vs potato. Just enough modification so that everyone could enjoy what they preferred. The soup, salad, appetizer and dessert were set items. The salad was crazy good. The only item to take home was some dessert, and only because one in my party does not like cheesecake, and the rest of us were simply too full.
This was our second time visiting - our first was very good, but this year, not so much. The appetizers and dessert were great, but the tenderloin was not actually a tenderloin. I'm not sure what cut of meat it was, but it was not tender. Also, the fish did not taste particularly fresh. On both visits I found the chairs uncomfortable. I know this sounds like a minor complaint, but when you reapolster a chair you need to put support in the middle so you don't feel like you are sinking in. I will give it another try, and I hope this was a fluke because it's a nice setting with great possibilities.
Best dining experience in Chincoteague Island. Very good value and excellent service. Each year since the new owners took over it has improved.
