We had seven in our party and everyone's food from appetizers through desserts was excellent. The service was also excellent. We are looking forward to going again when we are back in the area. We highly recommend the Cat and Owl.

Just left and the food was so good I’m doing the review in the parking lot. Saturday night and not a lot of people. This place is truly a diamond in the rough. I’d throw rocks at anything in Roanoke versus this food. Simply amazing food and service.

This review is from May 2025. I am just getting around to posting it.
There is a smell in the air, maybe of cat and owl, that just did not agree with me. Won't be eating there again.
Food was fine. Service too.

Great atmosphere service food was cold
The service was excellent the waitress was very kind and apologetic because of the slow wait (even though we didn't mind at all!) She was very sweet and was working very hard, and the food was very good as well! We hope to be back! :)

This was our first time being here. Everyone we interacted with was really great. Inside had a great atmosphere, although I was taken aback with the sign asking to ring the bell for service. Wasn't a big deal for us as the waitress heard us discussing it and came right to us, but I was hesitant to actually ring it since it seems a little rude to the staff. Everything was very clean, very tidy looking. With that being said, it was odd to me that the silverware wasn't wrapped up, but displayed out on the tables. Most people don't walk by touching tables, but Id of still rather had my silverwear covered. Never know when someone might sneeze or something. The bread was great! I honestly could have made a meal off of that alone. It was fresh, the butter was really good, and it was freely provided. The butter looked homemade and the rolls were definitely not out of a frozen bag from a store. I ordered a filet mignon medium, a baked potato, and mushrooms. All of them were really good, the filet was cooked perfectly, and it was well presented. I'd never personally had this meat cut before, wanted to try something new, but this one did have a bigger section of fat than what I was expecting. It was very tender and juicy, with a great taste though. My husband ordered a sirloin, a loaded potato, and the veggie of the day. His sirloin was cooked medium, but was rather fatty so he had a harder time cutting it up. He said outside of that he liked the rest. Their salad bar had a variety of selections to top the salad with, looked well kept, and fresh. It didn't have any pastas or anything like some places do, but it was nice. Overall I feel like I enjoyed the history of the building, the interaction with our waitress (who was absolutely amazing and so sweet), the bread rolls, and the decorations over everything else. Would I come back again? Perhaps, but not any time soon. It's not the cheapest place to dine at. I will say that there is not a dress code so don't feel like you need your Sunday best here, and we didn't do a reservation and had no wait time. It was a nice place with friendly people that make you feel at home.

Loved the hand cut steaks. They were cooked to perfection with the slightest char flavor. Only one other restaurant has achieved such perfection (Boots Steakhouse in NC). My steak melted in my mouth and was perfectly cooked to medium rare temperature. The baked potato, sauteed mushrooms and bread with cinnamon honey butter were also outstanding. Our server, Lisa, was pleasant and accommodating. Overall, from a very discerning gourmand, this wonderful restaurant is well worth the trip and has top notch food and service. We also loved the homemade apple pie and the drinks were excellent. Kudos to the chef. We will be back to visit the Cat and the Owl!

The atmosphere and setting was pretty nice. It wasn't that busy. The waitress was nice and polite. At first we were not offered bread and when I asked she said they were out of it but would look. Eventually she came back out with 2 really soft hot rolls which arguably were the best part of the meal. The prime rib was only ok. Broccoli was barely cooked. The filet was dry and tough. We got water to drink and our bill was over $80. Im sorry I can't recommend this restaurant based on the value and taste of the meal.

Don’t waste your time. This place isn’t worth the money. My wife ordered the shrimp and scallops which were very small and look like they came from frozen section of grocery store. She got baked potato which came plain with no butter or sour cream which she asked for. I ordered the 5 oz. Filet which had no flavor and very tuff. We both ordered broccoli which was under cooked and no flavor. We had honey butter on the table so we asked for some bread and was to it’s only for people with reservations….which we had. Only one waitress. For a up scale restaurant it’s terrible. We won’t be back.
Food was not that great but all in all nice atmosphere and a cozy little place
