The food is amazingly fresh, made to order, and priced well. The staff are so genuine and are very knowledgeable of the menu. They've provided us with service and care throughout our meal. We favor the Blackened chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries as well as the Salmon and grits. I still want to know what's in those grits? They are fire, you hear me. The catfish is always hot and big fat filets. They dont skimp on the food and besides you can just take it home. This review is making me hungry.

We stopped by Down Home Comfort Cafe for dinner, on a friend's recommendation. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits were absolutely on point. The grits were creamy, rich, and simply delicious, and the shrimp were grilled to perfection.
Flavor! 🦐🦐🦐🦐
We also enjoyed the green beans, cabbage, cornbread, the smothered pork chops, and Jambalaya. We shared everything!
Genuine comfort food made with love.
A special shoutout to Jessica, who was so wonderful. She walked us through the menu and helped us pair sides like a pro. She genuinely welcomed us and made us feel right at home with the kind of service that makes great food even better.
Out of all of it? No hesitation, this is a solid 5-star experience. We’ll definitely be back.

⭐️ 3.5 / 5 – Black-Owned Comfort Spot Worth a Second Try
I love me some good southern and Creole comfort food, but most spots are usually in Maryland. So when I found this Black-owned gem right here in Woodbridge, I had to try it! You know I’m always going to give the real tea on a restaurant. Beautiful artwork on the walls with neosoul music playing. The server was extremely friendly ans helpful.
The collards were a miss for me—slightly sweet, which some may enjoy if you grew up with that touch of sugar to hide the bitterness. I prefer mine more savory. The turkey and collard green gumbo was flavorful but missing that extra kick of seasoning to really set it off. Still a great option for those with shellfish allergies. The cornbread with corn niblets was okay—nothing to make sparks fly.
Soapbox moment: a soul food restaurant with no mac and cheese is highly unacceptable! Sweet potato mash and ribs were taking too long to prepare, but I’ll definitely give them another try because you know I love me some fried fish.
The restaurant itself is very small, so it’s not big-family friendly (anything over 8 people might be tight). Carry-out may be your best option—definitely order ahead!

Ordered to go food from DHC based on the recommendation of a friend. We tried the Honey Cornbread loaf, Fried chicken wings with mambo sauce, and the catfish and grits. Everything was so good! I am glad to find this place and so close to home. I’m looking forward to trying other menu items in the future

The woman at the register was very kind and patient as we decided what to order. We chose a bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and a chicken sandwich with regular fries. Both sandwiches were delicious!! The chicken was seasoned well. The buns were nicely toasted. The side of BBQ sauce was really good, vinegary! Both types of fries were exceptional and sweet potato fries last a while so I'm snacking on them still! We waited 20 min. for our food which we knew up front. I like having to wait for my food to be prepared well! We walked over to the Sweet Suite for drinks. We received a text message when it was ready. Great spot! Supporting a veteran owned, family run business that exceeds expectations means so much to me.

Down Home Comfort Café lives up to its name, delicious food, warm service, and a true family vibe. The staff is genuine, not pushy, and the atmosphere is cozy. Small spot, so get there early or grab takeout. I definitely order here for when friends come out of town to visit me! Best place I’ve ever been in a long time!
Mannnnnn!!! When I try new places I like to get a spread and that’s what I did! Go get you some right now, Tuesday-Sunday, whenever you craving food and it’s Soul this the place to try!
Cornbread moist and perfection, rice and gravy is perfect. Chicken wings fried perfectly and tastes good! Pork chops perfect! Fish perfect! Sides could be a little bigger for the greens if you charge $8 I’ll take the rice and gravy for $6 (that’s probably my only feedback not a complaint) It’s easier to write something negative about the place than praise them- but this place deserves their flowers!!!!
Hands down!!!

My father-in-law and I went there for the first time today he’s born and raised in Mississippi, and is highly critical of catfish and other soul food items. We were so impressed with the taste and the seasoning of every dish. It was incredible. We ordered the catfish the chicken wings, the mashed potatoes, the greens some cabbage, some smothered pork chops, some gumbo and cheesecake and cornbread and we’re impressed by every single dish oh, and I can’t forget the sweet potatoes in the mashed potatoes everything was seasoned to perfection and exceptional. I look forward to ordering food from here again. It was amazing. Lastly, the customer service was perfect while waiting for my food one of the ladies who worked there even offered me a glass of water. Everyone was very nice. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve been impressed by a soul food restaurant.
