I’ll give a three-star because I have an issue with the tip being required before the service is performed. It feels like a lose-lose situation: if I don’t tip well, they may not check up on me, and if I do tip well, they still might not provide good service. I really dislike having to tip beforehand at this place.
At the end:
Vibe of the place is great and get to play games and drink/eat.
Fun spot with ample seating, views of a massive projector, outstanding food and coffee. During my first visit I did try a handful of their pints and enjoyed the 'kids' chicken tenders - though, the quality of chicken far exceeded what you'd find from a Layne's Chicken Fingers or a Cane's Chicken Box and the pricing was better.
Lovely spot, parking was a little difficult with the weather recently but there is a garage a block away from this location with free interior parking (up to 2 hours or w/e).
I'm actually jealous of the other 1 star reviews. This pizza was $24. This photo doesn't show that it was also paper thin.
Commonwealth is my home away from home. Excellent, kind, and consistent staff are the stars here. I really want to highlight their morning/midday hours— they open for coffee at 8am every day and probably have one of the best cups of black coffee in old town (sorry de clieu). Their wifi is great. They also just installed a bunch more outlets all over to help folks who want to charge laptops.
Of course their beer is great, especially the rotating selection of IPAs, lagers, and sours.
Finally, I need to mention their patio— it is off the charts for Old Town Fairfax. If you want to meet with friends outside here, it is the place to go. Can’t wait for the City to undertake some traffic pattern changes so the street is a bit calmer.
Great beer selection, good food!
Good selection of beer.
Their fries is really good!
i went for the beer and will go back for the food!! hahaha! great menu..and if you're a fan of good beer this place will not disappoint. dynamite place to go with your lawyer to celebrate victory or to drown your sorrows in defeat. cheers !!
Commonwealth Brewing is secretly a french fry restaurant disguised as a brewery. Don’t get me wrong, the beer is phenomenal. They have many options, and the seasonal rotations are always hits. I miss their Mexican lager the moment it’s no longer available. But really, they seem to have perfected the french fry. The boardwalk fry has just the right of crispness on the outside, and it’s still fluffy on the inside. It’s tossed in old bay and served with a rich honey mustard. Could not recommend more.
Good brewery atmosphere and vibe. Lively patio. The cheapest beer is $10. 3% fee for using a credit card. Cash not accepted. A little more expensive than what I'm used to. Fries are good.
Really good experience! Food amazing

Thin crust pizza can be done well. However, this pizza’s crust was raw. When we asked to have it returned, the server laughed at us until we showed him the dough was still spreadable. He had the pizzas remade and returned with them shortly after. These are the remade pizzas that were once again raw. Good environment but don’t get food here.
Want to thank Common Wealth for having a super amazing barista, Brooke. Im always sad at the last sip of my coffee. (You guys have great beer too!!) Until my next coffee visit!!!
Excellent beer, very friendly staff and the chicken Caesar wrap and fries is shockingly good brewery fare. I love that we’ve got a place like this nearby and don’t need to hoof it out west for a similar experience. The proximity to other downtown shops and restaurants is an added plus. New Sunday ritual of an afternoon pint, some new vinyl from Mobius, then coffee at De Clieu is just what the doctor ordered. If I had to complain about anything it would be that it is quite loud, particularly when busy. Maybe I’m just getting old but some sound deadening on that bare concrete ceiling would go a long way. Regardless, 5/5 place, love it at Commonwealth.
Zero stars would be more than enough for a place that slaps you with a 3% surcharge on credit cards but won’t take cash. They also seem to feel that if you buy a 16 oz can they only need to pour 14 oz into your glass, so it’s the same as their other “pints”.
Very popular brewery/bar/table service restaraunt. Delicious beers. Only issue was long waits for tap service but that's unavoidable, and speaks to the popularity.
