Parents, take your child to INOVA Fairfax ER instead.Dr.Sarah C Foster at INOVA FairOaks called CPS on me for disagreeing with her. Took my 11 year old to ER for body rash. She couldn't tell me the reason for the rash- it was Strep Throat. But she wanted my kid hospitalized for breathing treatments- exact same treatments I've been giving at home and wanted to keep doing at home because my kid has ASD and ADHD. I respectfully disagreed with her that the hospitalization was necessary. She said she is OK letting us leave if I will take my kid to a follow up visit the next day. I promised I will and left. She called the CPS the same day, reporting 'physical neglect'. She did not even give me one day to fulfill my promise. I did take my kid to a follow up the next day and doctor confirmed that my kid's asthma is under control.CPS closed the case after viewing my ample paper trail and speaking to my child, her teacher, her pediatrician, and her psychiatrist.Foster also lied on her physician's note-that I took my kid out of ER against her advice. I declined hospital admittance, not ER care ( we were there for 5hours; received ER care).

Felt very cared for in a difficult situation. Got much more help than I expected and received clear and direct follow up and prognosis. Thank you!!

Inova has convinced me that dying is a cheaper and more efficient use of my time and resources. The service is unbelievably slow for no apparent reason; they claim that there is a shift change while the same nurses are on their phones sitting in the same desk for about an hour for what would take any other hospital about 15 minutes give or take for discharge papers. The most used device here seems to be their own personal cellphones which is comforting because at least we're not paying for that. They are about the cleanest hospital I know though so credit where it's due and at the very least some of the staff is sympatheticUpdate: the day shift knew more about the medication that we needed than the night shift and left them hanging. Very swell

I liked that I didn’t have to wait too long to get a room here, I was there around 12:00 am for abdominal pain. They ran some tests which one of them, I don’t feel was explained to me accurately but it was hard bc the pain meds made me a bit dizzy. I appreciated how they tried to target the pain I was experiencing and they seemed to truly care. The nurse and assistant did a good job with staying on top of things, checking on me, and working hard. I was treated with a lot of respect and kindness which I truly appreciated.

My husband and I were in Fairfax visiting my son for the holidays. I went to the ER last night due to abdominal pain. My experience there was indeed a 5 star. It exceeded all my expectations. It started from the check- in to the time I was discharged. The nurse practitioner, RN and the guy who gave me my sonogram were all top tier professionals. These people were so detailed in explaining the care they would be extending and if I had any concerns they were there to assist me.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this facility if you are sick bc they genuinely care about the patient and it shows in the treatment !! Also the facility was very clean and other staff members were friendly as well.. Thank you all for the great service it makes a huge difference and it is appreciated more than you know !!!

Grateful. I had gone to INOVA Fairfax City ER Sunday night earlier due to my asthma exacerbated by Influenza A and not being able to breathe. My experience at INOVA FAIR OAKS was like night and day compared to Fairfax city (with the exception of Nurse Brittney at Fairfax city who was perfect). I went to Fair Oaks about an hour after being discharged from Fairfax City because I was still struggling to breathe.I wish I had gotten the names of the two females who checked me in on Monday at like 1am, but they were so kind and calm. After the way I was treated at Fairfax City ER, I thought wow, what a difference caring healthcare professionals makes! There was a woman at a computer who was asking me health questions, even though I was struggling to talk through my breathing issues, she was very calm and kind. The nurse who was there taking my temperature was also wonderful. She wheeled me back to my room and helped me into a gown. I had sweated through my shirt from fever and she wiped me off and told me she didn’t want to leave me alone so she would wait with me until the doctor came because I couldn’t breathe. I wish I could remember her name or even what she looked like but I was too disoriented. Please thank her for me and the girl asking the intake questions, they were an awesome team and such a reassuring start to my visit. The physician assistant I think his name started with a C he was perfect. He listened to me, seemed like he genuinely wanted to help me, explained everything to me, the wait time was reasonable, I felt safe, he was genuine and reassuring during a time I felt anxious and scared. There is not a single negative thing that I can think of during my visit. My nurse Christopher was also spectacular. I was blown away by the quality of care I was receiving after such a bad experience just an hour before at INOVA Fairfax City. Christopher was also so calm, reassured me, was patient with me. When I couldn’t catch my breath to do the EKG, instead of getting frustrated, he calmly said “let me give you these medications the doctor wants you to have first to help your lungs relax and we can try again later ok.” I don’t think he even realized the care I felt in that moment because it’s probably just second nature to him, but his compassion while I was suffering is something I will never forget. He also did my IV flawlessly and kept telling me I was doing great. On top of that he told me every name of every medication he was injecting into my iv and what it does. I don’t remember any nurse ever doing that with me before and as someone with anxiety, I found it so comforting.Nurse Christopher, the intake woman, the female nurse and the PA are all in the correct profession… my heart goes out to them! Thank you to whomever hired and trained these healthcare professionals that worked the early shift at 1am on 12/18/23. My visit with you all was truly flawless. And I am now at home recovering, thanks to their help.

Not a very good experience. The ER was understaffed, overworked, and not enough beds. they sent home staff earlier due to er occupancy but the place was jammed and busy. They stuck me outside in the hall H1. My wife had to get me water from the vending machine out in the lobby.

At 3:00pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, I went to the emergency room at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. I was having severe abdominal pain. This was the fourth day and after numerous attempts to doctor myself, my primary care physician, Dr Roma Edoo-Sowah, ordered me to the hospital. It didn't take long to receive the care that I needed. Dr Steven Taylor came to my room, very cordially introduced himself and after a thorough examination, ordered the appropriate tests. When the results were ready, he explained my condition in detail with complete instructions for further care. The appropriate drugs were administered and thankfully, around 8:40pm, I was well enough to be discharged. I must say that Dr. Taylor did an excellent job in caring for me and taking the time to explain everything. There were many patients in the waiting room and more patients waiting for the doctors who were lying on beds in the staff's work area because there were no rooms available. I would like to thank Dr. Taylor and his wonderful staff of nurses, techs, registration personnel and anyone else I forgot to mention, that they all did an excellent job of providing quality patient care. Angels are everywhere especially in the Fair Oaks Emergency Room.

A week ago I had an outpatient procedure at this facility. Everyone from The greeter at the door was Uber professional and accommodating. I was there on time, completed paperwork and Andrew aka Andy was my first RN for the day. He was pleasant and joyful to be around. He made me relaxed the entire prep time. Brenda popped in to say hello and reassured me everything will be fine and provided some after care tips. Janelle arrived to pop in the IV with ease and no fuss. She has a gentle hand. Brenda rolled me back a few minutes ahead of schedule. My glasses had been removed but I think I saw an Angel in dr. Matthew! Whew, he is a handsome tall man. Sunita introduced herself, Dr. Hegab walked in, introduced himself and asked me if I had any questions. Nope, let's get this party started!! Handsome Dr. Matthew put the mask on me and said "count to 5" but I don't remember anything after 2!! I woke up in recovery to my bestie about to sit near me and nurse Debbie! My bestie said "dang that was fast, I didn't even get breakfast! You were done in 10-15 minutes!" I was pleased, recovery time went fast and I was headed home in no time! I had the best rest that following weekend. Inova called and text me to follow up! I had a fantastic positive experience at Inova Fair Oaks! I hope not to see them soon! Only because "who wants to go the hospital?" However if you do need medical attention, I highly recommend this location and the staff is phenomenal.

Brought my husband here just now. I have been at this ER three times in 18 years. The service has gone way down. I know it depends on what is wrong with you. They checked my husband's vitals, then sent him back to the waiting room. Not enough EKG machines. I have NEVER seen this.

TL;DR: The staff at this emergency room are not trained to treat newborns. If you need to take your newborn or infant to an ER, go to the Fairfax Hospital Emergency room. We've had both our children at Fair Oaks Inova and have loved our experience both times. The nurses and staff have, for the most part, been knowledgable, friendly and helpful. That being the case, when our first daughter needed to go to the emergency room, we wanted to go back to Fair Oaks, assuming that the staff would be consistent across the hospital. We were wrong. We came to the Emergency Room at around 3am with a baby that was two days old. We figured her age, and the overall lack of a line, would allow us to be seen pretty quickly by a doctor. Not the case. We waited in the lobby for a good 30 minutes before being sent to a room. The room literally had an HVAC unit in it which was so loud that my wife and I could hardly talk to one another and probably wasn't the ideal spot for a 2-day-old. But we were willing to live with it to get seen.We waited in that room for an hour, waiting for our 2-day-old to be seen by someone, anyone. Not a single person came to check on us or take a look at what was going on. Well, I shouldn't say no one, the billing department made it a point to stop by pretty punctually to make sure that our insurance was on file and that they were going to get paid; that was a nice touch. Finally, two nurses came in around 5am, two hours after we came to the emergency room. They walked in and attempted to draw blood from our 2-day-old, which made no sense for them to do. Our daughter was dehydrated and looking back on it, there was no reason that she needed to have bloodwork done. It blows my mind that they didn't even ask when the last time my daughter had eaten. We were going on 48 hours of no sleep and didn't think about what they were doing, but the fact that they immediately went to drawing blood should have been a red flag. They started by trying to draw blood from my daughter's arm. They stuck my 2-day-old's arms three or four times trying to find a vein and then literally said, joking to one another, "I'm literally so tired I can't even think right now." I can't imagine a less comforting, unprofessional thing to hear from a nurse as they're sticking my daughter with a needle. Finally, after about 10 minutes of poking and prodding, they left the room and came back with a foot stick (which is what they should have done originally). And they drew her blood for a fourth time and left the room. After the blood sample was delivered and after a 2 hour wait (it was 6am at this point) a doctor showed up and told us that the bilirubin numbers were high but that the test could be inaccurate sometimes, so they needed to draw more blood and then she left.We waited for another hour and two new nurses and a lady from the reception office walked in and said they were going to draw more blood. I finally protested saying that I was sick and tired of people who didn't know what they were doing sticking my 2-day-old, barely-conscious daughter with needles. The receptionist then verbally berated me saying that she was concerned that I didn't care about my daughter's bloodwork. So more blood was drawn and my daughter was put on an IV.After 7am (4 hours into our trip), the shift changed and a NICU nurse took over. She was wonderful, knew what she was doing and was very attentive. She checked in on us consistently, made sure my daughter was doing okay and that was such a relief. At about 9 in the morning a new doctor came in, said he had looked at our bloodwork and determined that there was nothing wrong with it and discharged us – 6 hours in an ER room for what should have taken 30 minutes. With our lesson learned, we thought that would be the last of our woes...then the bill showed up at our house. Nearly $3,000 in medical expenses for completely unnecessary, unhelpful and borderline harmful work.Needless to say, we will never be going back to this ER again.

This is the worst ER out there. They totally ignored continued requests for water but would come in to take test after test to run the bill up. My sister was there for 12 hours straight being totally ignored until transport. Go to Prince William!
