Our new favorite take out spot. The team members are kind and the food is always fresh.

Wait 35mins for one hamburger since it is from veteran discount. Customers come after us can get their meal before us. If the restaurant doesn’t want to give promotion to veterans that’s ok, but they shouldn’t waste our time like this.

New Fairfax Shake Shack location can get very busy and wait can be long. But when it's not during a lunch/dinner rush, food and service are good!

I was asked to revisit, and I did over the weekend. This time I went in for a late lunch around 1:40. It was less crowded, and there wasn’t a long line of frustrated customers waiting for food. My order came out much faster and tasted much better than before. It seems the new manager has really improved the process — fewer people in the kitchen and more helping out front, which made a big difference. I’ll definitely be coming back. Hopefully next time the tables will be cleaner — that part still needs some attention.
I decided to give this Fairfax City location a second try before writing a review, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t improve. Both visits were during Saturday lunch hours — the first time was packed, the second much quieter. Despite fewer customers, my order still took quite a while the first time (over 45 minutes) and came out much faster the second (about 25 minutes), though the quality didn’t quite match.
The food itself tastes good, but consistency seems to be an issue. My first visit had burnt buns; the second, a burnt patty. Not sure which is better at this point. For a burger place, the wait time feels unusually long.
I also noticed several customers looking frustrated or leaving while waiting, and tables weren’t cleaned during my second visit — I ended up wiping one down myself. Despite having plenty of staff, the operation felt disorganized.
I might try a different location, but probably not this one again.

We ordered 1 Lettuce Wrap Burger (no buns), and two of their limited time French Onion Soup Burgers, crispy fries, + 1 Campfire S'mores Shake. Burgers are consistently made well and really good.

Went here hoping for a burger and shake. I overheard a worker telling a table that they would have to wait at least another 20 minutes. I then realized everyone at the counter was waiting for food and the majority of tables still had their markers up signaling they were also waiting for food. I understand getting a little backed up at times but this seemed beyond.

This location just opened a couple of weeks ago, but it already feels run down and poorly managed. There was no ketchup on the pumps, and after waiting 18 minutes, our fries and burgers arrived cold. The servers seemed exhausted and disengaged, like every step required permission.
When we returned the fries, it took another 10 minutes to get replacements. The kitchen floor, visible from the counter, was dirty with papers on the ground, and the dining area was sticky underfoot. We even had to clean our own table before sitting.
To top it off, staff were arguing about tasks within earshot of customers. For a brand-new restaurant, this was a rough experience, definitely not the quality or energy you’d expect from Shake Shack.

Went back to the counter to ask where our food was because it was taking forever. There was our tray of food just sitting on the counter being ignored. Clearly it had been there awhile - cold burgers, lukewarm fries, no longer ice in my iced tea. Nobody seemed to care.
Every table requires that one person look into the blazing sun through windows only mildly obscured by thin blinds.
Conveniently located but won't be back.

The team handled a busy day, between in-store, delivery, and carry-out orders, with grace and professionalism the likes of which I rarely see. The teamwork was fluid and flowed perfectly, and the staff members on shift were in perfect lockstep dealing with an incredibly busy store. I'm deeply impressed by this location and especially the staff members themselves.
