This place used to be my absolute favorite place to eat, both the food truck and the Floyd location were incredible. I used to rave about their loaded fries and couldn’t get enough. I would get Bootleg every time I was in Floyd or I saw their food truck at a brewery.
Unfortunately, the quality and portions have gone downhill. The Floyd location used to serve generous portions like the food truck, but earlier this year I noticed my order of loaded fries was only half the usual size. I thought maybe it was a fluke, and went back to the Floyd location a few weeks later and ordered the loaded fries again. However, the loaded fries again were half the typical portion. When I asked the employee why the loaded fries were half the normal portion, she told me that I had received the correct portion. I asked her why the food truck served a larger portion of loaded fries. She told me the food truck had been over serving and making the portions larger than they were supposed to be. I was confused, because I had been getting the loaded fries for two years from both the Floyd location (the old location and new location in Floyd) and the food truck. The portions had been consistent until earlier this year.
So, I started to only go to the food truck. For the next two months, each time I went to the food truck, I received a full portion of the loaded fries. However, after two months, the food truck also started to serve half portions of the loaded fries. I decided to give up the loaded fries.
I wanted to give Bootleg one more chance, and stopped by the Floyd location while I was in town. I ordered the brisket, but it was tough, rubbery, and full of sinew.
It’s really disappointing because this used to be my favorite place in the world to eat, but now the portions feel skimpy and the meat quality has dropped so much that it’s just not worth it anymore. I truly hope they go back to the quality and portions they used to have. This place was something special.
I’ve included photos of the new smaller portion of loaded fries vs the old larger portion of loaded fries. Same price for both portions.

Owner offered a sample of both the brisket and pulled pork. Both tasted sooooo good. Went with the brisket and it was delicious! Also added the chili which hit the spot on a cool evening. Great food and great service. In the area you must stop by!!!

Food and service are always the best. It's outside so there really isn't much atmosphere. Every time I go to floyd I eat here. Loaded fries are great

Worst ribs I've ever had. Very crunchy. Not edible. Won't be back.

Sides were good. The pulled pork was the best I have had that I can remember. Very moist and seasoned and smoked to perfection
Super friendly! Food was amazing!

The service was excellent, the young woman who helped me was extremely kind and knowledgeable. My husband had the ribs, which he LOVED. I had the brisket wrap, which was excellent, as were the sweet potato fries. Highly recommend both the Floyd Firewater and Red Moon Rising sauces. The slaw needed a bit more acid and salt, but we will definitely be making a stop here again the next time we’re in town!!

Went to get brisket Saturday and they were out I love their brisket. Ended up getting 2lbs of pulled pork. Very good. Heavy smoke flavor. No sauce added so I did Baby Ray's
Well,
Thought the view and the outside area was really nice… but ah… I’ll just say you better have a lot of water “they were not spicy they were very dry” if you want to consume the bq… and I never tasted half of rack if ribs that tasted burnt… the young lady running the place was trying but to leave her there by herself I just didn’t have the heart to complain… chalked it up to I should have looked at the reviews b4 I stopped but like I said the view and scenery got me lol…
1st, be friendly & say "Thank You". 2nd, the pulled pork was cool and served on a cold bun. It did not have much flavor, didn't smell or taste like smoke at all. 3rd They must have forgotten to cook the beans, not warm either. 4th the slaw was simply shredded cabbage - they forgot the dressing. There was not one redeeming quality. Should have known, car show up the road and busy brewery next door but no one else came while we were there, almost 5:00 on a Saturday. I guarantee the brewery would not recommend them to someone who was hungry...

I've only eaten there once but I will be back. Really good BBQ !!!
The owner was amazingly pleasant. I wasn't sure I was ready to eat dinner yet. He didn't pressure me. We talked about how I appreciated that he had extra meat priced out. I happily ordered right then. The pulled pork was exquisite. Earlier today I paid more for less meat elsewhere and was sorely disappointed. The portions are right. The prices are right. The service is impeccable. I'd give more stars if I could. Try the alabama sauce. Go for the candied bacon. I don't k oe that I'll come back through Virginia, but if I do I'll search this place out.
We visited on a Friday night in early November 2024. There was a group before us when we arrived a group that were there about the same time we were and another that arrived as we were leaving. This was a one person show taking the orders and preparing all the food. She was absolutely amazing working with our indecisiveness in what to order. It was more like a food truck. We arrived intending to try the Outerspace restaurant but it was closed for the season. The other restaurants on the main strip were hoping so this was a little off the beaten path but we didn't have to wait.
There was plenty of outdoor seating in a very eclectic area with the Outerspace restaurant. We loved it. Kids had a blast exploring the decorations while we waited for our food. There is a outhouse with fun lighting and a hidden sink. We arrived around dusk and by the time we left it was pretty dark.
We ordered:
• Pork/Chicken Loaded Fries (both delicious)
• Half Rack of Ribs (6 ribs) (eh, would pass next time)
• 1 pound Brisket (delicious and leaked through/dissolved container)
• Smoked Beans 16oz (very good)
• Shoestring Fries (ranch) (found picky youngest child)
• Pickle Fries (very good)
• Atomic Buffalo Turd (amazing but probably not for price)
• Red Sun Rising BBQ Sauce (our favorite sauce option)
Overall the food quality was good. The prices were a little on the higher side. The Atomic Buffalo Turd was probably not worth the price while delicious. If we were in Floyd again we would definitely consider stopping by here. Service and atmosphere were fantastic.
The food, service, and portions were great. Loved the location and being able to eat outside. They do not serve beer but take 15 steps to the right and you can purchase from the space bar.
