They have really good fruit and sweet wines. They also have a great specialty wine selection. This place has a unique concept of offering wine making classes.

Yes, the location is not what you expect when you see the word "winery". But once you step inside you'll find a very cool tasting room, racks of the outstanding Bacchus wines, and all the supplies you need to make your own wine, beer and/or mead. Add in the cheerful, charming and well informed owner and you're in for a very pleasant discovery at Bacchus Winery!

Wine tasting was awesome. The owner makes really interesting fruit wines (like blackberry, strawberry, etc.) along with classic dry wines and makes sure to give his customers the best experience. Can’t miss if you’re in the area.

I was somewhat surprised that it is located in a strip mall. Was not expecting that. Very small, decorated nicely, but was not what I was looking for on a beautiful sunny day. It is actually a teaching "winery", they have all the supplies you need to make your own wine, cider, mead and beer. If your looking to make your own drinks, this may be the place for you. If your looking to relax and just enjoy an outing for the day, with a scenic view, this may not be what you have in mind.

I gave a Facebook review in 2019. However, things changed in 2022 when me and my wife took our first class!! Since then we’ve taken three class and brew on site! Yes, the itch is real! So, my review changes for the good because not only is all the wine Hal makes great, but now I’m making good wine. I can’t thank Hal enough for the education, wisdom, and all the friends we’ve made on this journey! Bacchus Winery is a must for anyone in the area!

Great eclectic wine shop. Hal will take you on a deep dive into wines of the world. I've been to Napa many times but he really helped broaden my knowledge of wines. And last but certainly not least, his wine making skill are top notch!

A close friend and I met in the middle in Fredericksburg to celebrate her birthday and wanted to try a local winery - when we found Bacchus online, we expected it to be like in a vineyard as we were used to, so we were surprised to find the entrance in a suburban strip mall type location. But don't be fooled! We had an amazing experience and definitely recommend Bacchus. The owner was very kind and introduced us to the winery, showing us around and explaining how they do things. We opted for a tasting of both the red and white wines (complimentary!) and sat in a high top table at the tasting area adjacent to the shop. The owner explained each wine's name and flavor when he brought the trays over. We had so much fun! Each one was delicious and we had a great time tasting & talking.

This is a tasting room / store/ educational venue located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. To set expectations, this is not a vineyard. The owner was very accommodating. They offer classes in winemaking, which look to be interesting.* The above is an update, our original review mistakenly & vastly underrated this establishment.

I brought four friends and my son for a tasting at Bacchus winery. The owner, Hal, had free time between classes and filling carboys to give us an excellent tasting his latest wines. He answered all of our questions with enthusiasm and was helpful in explaining the classes he provided and the procedures involved. We did not partake in and food offerings as we were headed to dinner after the tasting. We all walked out with at least one bottle of wine. We will be back with more people. Great experience

Came from NC to visit a friend in Fredericksburg. She took me to the Bacchus Winery. It was so relaxing and the owner really was knowledgeable about the different wines . I loved the slushy wine especially since it was a hot day and was so refreshing. I bought a couple of bottles to bring home

This is going to be a long review covering several topics.First, the wines. If you want to taste and purchase excellent wine, then this is a must-visit winery. No, you won’t be sitting among rolling vineyards or enjoying mountain vistas, but the wines here are unparalleled. We have visited multiple wineries across Virginia, but not one comes close to the consistent excellent quality of wines produced here. The variety offered here is extensive, and not one disappoints. The biggest challenge lies in deciding which you like best. If you have ever visited a winery, tasted their wines, taken a few bottles home, and after a few months wondered why you bought them, I can guarantee you won’t ever be disappointed with the wines produced here.Second, the owner’s expertise. Hal is the vintner and a true oenophile. He has tremendous knowledge about wine - the varietals, the history, and the all important elements of tasting. He is a wine judge certified by the American Wine Society. Do you want to compare one variety to another, understand why one blend may be more enjoyable than another, or know what foods pair with specific wines? Ask Hal.Third, Hal’s willingness and eagerness to share his knowledge. Ask him anything about wine or winemaking, and he will provide a clear, concise, and educated answer. The winery sells everything you need to make your own wine. I have been making wine from kits for over 15 years because of the relative simplicity and because I have so far been happy with the results. Since I moved to Virginia two years ago, I have gone to Hal for supplies as well as advice. He has provided me with innumerable tips on winemaking. As a result of these interactions, I decided I needed to up my game, which leads me to my final point.Hal offers classes in winemaking, with a regular hands-on course in kit-winemaking. Before you write me off here, know that kit winemakers have won gold, silver, and bronze medals in international amateur wine competitions. Google it. Hal teaches more advanced methods than those found in the instructions provided with the kits. I have learned more in the first three classes than in all of my prior experience and expect my homemade wine to go from good to great. I also hope to advance my knowledge even more in future advanced classes.A huge and unadvertised aspect of the wine-making class is the wine-pairing food plate prepared by Hal, an accomplished chef as well, after every class. How could you go wrong? In short, Hal knows and loves wine and is enthusiastic about everything aspect of it. A visit to Bacchus winery is worth every minute of your time.

I read the previous reviews after I went. I can honestly say I can't agree. The experience was great and the wine was even better. The owner and his wife were absolutely wonderful and extremely knowledgeable about their craft. I can say since the tasting is free please make sure you support their business. Oh yea, how can I not mention the frozen wines..... It was a tremendous surprise. Go check them out and try their other food product.... Hands down I recommend.

We love Bacchus Winery! It's such a unique experience. You can take wine making classes or just grab a glass of wine and hang out! We are on our 4th class now. Hal, the owner, is a very knowledgeable and patient man! Lol!
