This place is full of decorations everywhere, lots of conversation starters, which I love! Try the waffles, they have a great variation which is DELICIOUS. Nice staff and quick service. I haven't been here since COVID though so I'm not sure how they are doing during the pandemic.

This place is a legit hidden gem. Eclectic feel with delicious food... Can't really ask for more than that.

My husband and I stopped by for brunch. We were immediately seated, the waitress was very quick and personable, and the food was cooked perfectly and delicious. I had the tin roof waffle and my husband had the burger with bacon and eggs; both of us really enjoyed our meals. Highly recommend this little gem.

Disclaimer: I have not had anything but the cheese board, and no cocktails were available in this initial visit--will update when I taste both.Atmosphere was funky, fun colors, and while the music was good, it was admittedly a little loud. Server was prompt, very helpful, and quite nice. But onto the food: the cheese board was huge! Beautifully laid out and very yummy. Though it was rather expensive, with cheese, nuts, and fresh food at this caliber, it was more than worth it.However, the best part was definitely the small dessert with the check. A succulent and fresh bite of white chocolate. On top of that, the chocolate was filled with mango, served with a thick berry sauce, and topped with a pleasantly floral sprinkling of bee pollen. It was AMAZING.I could have devoured a whole sampler of these chocolates. You could taste every flavor, a great final touch to the meal.We will definitely be visiting again to try some entrees, and hopefully some tasty drinks!

Dinner on Friday was fantastic and Brunch Saturday also did not disappoint. This is the culinary landmark that I have not been able to find in Fredericksburg since moving here.

We went for restaurant week. There were 2 tables other than us. There was one waitress. We ordered our food (a berry waffle and the chicken and waffle as they were only offering waffles and no sides). After about 20 minutes we needed more coffee- the waitress now had a nearly full restaurant and was running ragged- we felt bad for her. She made more coffee and gave it to everyone else and ran out (understandable) so she said she’d make more... we never got it. Our waffles arrived 40 minutes after ordering. They weren’t cooked all the way- as in, so doughy we couldn’t cut them. We had somewhere to be and had already waited for that long it wasn’t worth sending them back for new ones. Apparently other tables had the same issue- sending back mostly uneaten waffles. The waitress explained that the manager and head chef had gone to the store for more ingredients and that’s why it was so slow.40 minutes to make 2 waffles? If that’s ALL you’re serving wouldn’t you make the batter in advance (maybe an hour prior to opening)?WHY wouldn’t you get your ingredients BEFORE opening to prevent this from happening? The pros: the atmosphere and decor is amazing and the waitress was super sweet and doing her best.

Worst restaurant experience ever, went to lunch last Sunday. We sat down and received menus and a glass of water, my water had lipstick marks on the glass at the top. The limited brunch menu had hamburgers, waffles and eggs and a few sandwiches. Hamburgers were $20. When the waitress came to take our order , I asked for a hamburger that’s when the waitress told me they were out of hamburgers for the day. So I proceeded to order a turkey sandwich and my wife ordered the BLT. We then heard the waitress tell another table that they were out of eggs as well so her order had to be changed. When our sandwiches arrived, instead of having a toothpick stuck in the sandwiches to hold it together they used a 12 inch skewer, Weird. It came with homemade ketchup was not very good in my opinion. My wife asked for mayonnaise because there was nothing on the BLT and we informed they did not carry any mayonnaise and the only thing they had was a Cranberry aioli, very strange on a BLT. It seems to be that this restaurant did not carry enough supplies to make it through the day. Doesn’t seem like a good way to run a business, they were also turning away customers at 1:30 pm because they didn’t have enough food. The chef came out and asked my wife if she enjoyed the aioli, she said told him it was OK. He said that you don’t have to pay for the meal because “ I don’t sell okay food”. We tried to insist that we wanted pay and he proceeded to open the door for us to leave. My wife said “I guess were being kicked out” and we got up and left the restaurant. He proceeded to follow us to our car ,He was yelling at us that we shouldn’t be so rude to him. He yelled you need to find Jesus!WTF. This so-called chef should learn how to deal with criticism, you are not going to make it in this business if you can’t take the feedback you asked for without getting offended and rude from your customers. Good luck to you, wish you the best you’re going to need it.

We had 45 people and was there for the pasta portion of our progressive dinner. It was very crowded, this is a very small place. It has a small bar area and is decorated with records and music items. They were very prepared for us and had the food out when we arrived. We took a look at the menu and it is a bit pricey, but we enjoyed our pasta and thought everyone was rushed and pleasant ( they did have a lot of people and a short time between large groups).

We were there for dinner during restaurant week. This is a cute, quirky place with a uniquely creative menu. We started with coconut shrimp on a bed of spring greens strewn with shredded coconut and a salad with a sweet and tart fruit dressing that had a bit of crunch. The salmon dinner was delicious as was the pasta entree selection. The chef combines unlikely ingredients to create deliciously original flavors. The decor is 60’s vintage flea market. We hope to go back for brunch.

Dark Star Saloon & Cafe is a phenomenon. Walking into the restaurant you immediately feel three things: The passion, the hard work, and the kindness. My girlfriend and I were welcomed into the place on a slow and rainy Tuesday morning. They were very personable with us, and took the time to give us a tour, elaborate on the inspirations that shaped the decor, and even talked to us about their roots. The restaurant was wall to wall with classic Indie and Rock music memorabilia and they support other local businesses by purchasing much of their decor and dining ware from antique stores; this really adds to the feel of the place in a great way. Krystopher, the Exec Chef and Owner, was awesome about letting us tour the place, including a work-in-progress game room on the upper floor. Moving onto the food and drinks, I was really impressed. The coffee was served with a nice tea-set style of cream and sugar. The coffee itself is from Maui where a friend of Krystopher own/works with a coffee plantation; the coffee was delicious and they sell the bags there as well! The owner's fiance and employee Kendall made some fantastic drinks for us as well; one was a Berry Mimosa which was refreshing and tasty, the other was a Bloody Mary. I want to really talk about the Bloody Mary for a moment, because it was on-par with another local Blood Mary from Mason-Dixon but in a different way. The Bloody Mary Kendall made used fresh herbs and was garnished with a strawberry; it was incredibly refreshing and fairly light whereas Mason-Dixon's very bold and equally delicious. When spring comes and the herbs are even fresher and more in season, I am excited to see how much more enjoyable that Blood Mary will be. When the food came out it was pretty incredible. The steak was out of this world, the mushrooms were fantastic, and the grits were crazy good. We didn't find a singe thing that we did not like. It was filling, fresh, and the overall experience was phenomenal. After we finished eating Krystopher sat with us and talked about future plans and his vision for the place and really made the experience great. He gave us a nice parting gift which, was like icing on the cake for such an incredible breakfast. We plan to go back frequently, and cannot wait to see how the place grows. If you enjoy unique and passionately cultivated food, this is a place you must try. (Just so y'all know, I made this account JUST to write a review about the experience. Fantastic place, from one introverted foodie to the next)
