We are locals and definitely not one to leave a bad review for places here, because we love to support our local businesses. However, this was the first and last time we will be eating here. Our fries were not done, barely heated enough not to be froze, and the burgers were very disappointing. Frozen patties, no real burger and definitely nothing to talk about. I would be embarrassed to send food out like we received. We do not recommend eating here.

So much missed potential. The service is horrible and the food is dry and unseasoned. The location is beautiful but a need to improve quality overall . I want to see businesses thrive in Fries but I believe that with that it’s important to look at reviews and make needed changes .
One positive I will note is that after Helene with the town was without power and closed off to access to Galax one gentleman open the cafe and cooked with a flashlight over the gas grill .

A good place to eat when you're in Fries. It's right near the river and the dam, very scenic. The food was good and so was the service.
I was hesitant to try the Windy City Cafe after reading some of the reviews but so glad I did. Fries has become my wife and my favorite vacation spot. Tonight we decided to try the cafe and happy we did. The service, the food and the atmosphere were spot on. We will definitely be back!

As a level 8 guide I have reviewed lots of places. I very seldom leave a bad review. But this place was one of worst experience I have had in a long time. The service was so bad we decided to do take out order. The place was empty, maybe a reason for that. My burger was inedible. It was soggy and did not taste like any kind of meat. I think it was boiled and sat around all day. I threw it away. Most of the staff did not seem to care about anything. It's a shame, it ruined our night.

One room has a nice view of the New River. We were surprised how extensive the menu was. Of course I had to get fries in Fries. Yes the fries were very good. Fast service and a friendly waitress. Good prices.
