My first time at Hondos and I have to say what a disappointment. I was expecting a better experience. I would say if you're planning to go, go before their closing time. Perhaps that's why one of their staff members was a little rude, and another staff member had to step in for better service..

Visited Hondo's for lunch with a friend. Excellent lunch menu with a wide array of choices $12.95 or less. Service was good and efficient. Good dessert menu. Key lime pie tasty and attractively served.

Let’s start with the good. The restaurant is quite nice, The steaks were cooked perfectly, the French onion soup was good (just had a lot of herbs) and my lemonade martini was fantastic.
The bad: everything needed salt. The orzo Mac and cheese tasted like absolute nothing, the sautéed spinach was still pretty raw, the shrimp tasted so bitter from the lemon sauce and were lukewarm, the scalloped potato’s had an odd taste.
I assume since it was Valentin’s day, it also took a long time for anything to come. We had a reservation and were sat at 7:30 and left at nearly 10. We did not get dessert as we did not want to wait any longer.

I recently tried this steakhouse for a business dinner… Made reservations to come in on a weeknight and when we got there, it was about half full inside. The décor and dining rooms are nicely setup, modern, and somewhat cozy, as they have multiple dining rooms. Table setting was nice, but they didn’t do a very good job replacing my silver as I used it and moved on to the next course… other than this, service was great!
Menu is pretty nice and it’s loaded with many of the popular chophouse items. They even have a nice selection of salads with discounts if bought with an entrée. We started with their New Orleans style BBQ shrimp which had a decent flavor, but way too much butter in it. It should resemble more of a brighter red color with visible spices in it. But what we got was a thick, buttery, pink/orange sauce. Flavor was ok, shrimp was cooked nicely. It was good to dip bread into.
Next up was their wedge salad – Typical, HUGE salad with a quarter of the iceberg lettuce head and all the other items… I love adding ranch dressing to the bluecheese that’s already on it and in this case, it worked perfectly! The lettuce and ingredients were flavorful and very fresh. I enjoyed it, but could only eat half of it to ensure I saved room for my entrée.
For my entrée I got steak frites for the first time ever! They did an amazing job with the hangar steak! Great flavor and perfect temperature! It was a good size portion as well. The fries that came with it were amazingly crispy and quite nice, I just wish they were slightly warmer. They seem to coat them with corn starch, as I saw some on several of the fries. I loved how crunchy they were! And they came with a nice ketchup… I wonder if it’s homemade?
Overall, we all enjoyed dinner and the service… They could easily be a 5-star
