Happened by here after work and gave it a try as I had commercials on the radio focused on the live music. Got a great local IPA from a local brewery across the Potomac and an ice cold glass just the right size. Lots of house made specials from an owner who is very hands on. We shared an order of the Chesapeake pay fries smothered in she crab soup and parm. They were absolutely delish and while a surprising combination paired well together. Even though it’s an hour from home, I’m already planning my next trip. Reduced hours off season so check before you go.

Coles Point Tavern is located in Maryland and as you walk to the restaurant you cross a "red line" on the boardwalk (Virginia/Maryland) state line. The food is awesome, our sandwiches were large and packed with meat. My grandson had the double meat cheeseburger, which was also great. The chilis had great flavor and came in a pretty good sized bowl. We also got the "loaded" french fries, onion rings and fried pickles. The waitress was very nice and kept our drinks full. The view of the water outside was nice. Highly recommend this restaurant!!

It was 4 p.m., the place was not super busy and we waited over 20 minutes at a table and were never waited on. We ended up leaving without being acknowledged. Such a shame.

ABSOLUTELY INSANE GOOD FOOD! The service was a little off because one waitress was just bringing stuff out to random tables. The seafood pizza was ridiculous. Huge scallops, crab meat, and shrimp loaded on top.

Called at 5:30 and verified there was no wait, put our name down for 6 PM. Got there at 6 PM, nobody greeted us, we had to walk up to people that looked like they worked there and they told us to just sit anywhere. Sat outside and nobody came up to us for 20 minutes. By then we were a little put off but we already knew what we wanted to eat and drink, even though there was no drink menu. Ordered drinks and our meal at the same time. My daughter ordered the she crab soup bc we like it, and the server proceeded to tell us that she had another little girl order it and she didn’t like it bc it had sherry in it? I told her we still wanted to order it. (Like, what?)My salad came, and it was missing peppers, Romaine lettuce and hard-boiled eggs, and was very skimp on the tomatoes and carrots for being a $10 salad. When the waitress came up to us to check on us, we mentioned that we were still waiting on some items, and that my salad was missing items. She stated if it wasn’t on the salad, they were out of it. I asked for more tomatoes and carrots then since my $10 salad was very meek, to which she returned saying they were out of tomatoes. She never came to check on us again. When we had been done for awhile, I had to go inside and ask another waitress for boxes, and that we were ready for the check, they said they would let our waitress know when they saw her.15 minutes later, still no waitress. Meanwhile, a table next to us was just served a salad with tomatoes on it. interesting.I flagged down another waitress and asked if we could pay her, which she took our card, apologized and went inside to take care of the check. Meanwhile, our waitress comes back finally to check on us, when I mentioned it was interesting the table next to me just got tomatoes five minutes ago, but yet they were out 30 minutes ago when I asked for it. She didn’t have an answer. They charged me $40 for six medium sized scallops. The she crab soup was good and the view was amazing. When we expressed our frustration to our server, she stated that they were busy and that they’re always busy and there’s always a wait. When we pulled up at 6 PM there were five cars in the parking lot and probably three tables had been sat at that time. There is no excuse for someone to take so long to come up and greet us, and to not be aware of when we’re done or finishing up and have a sit there and wait for 20+ minutes so we can get our check.

Price is always Right

For the price, this place is totally overrated. Yes, it’s a great location and their infamous crab cakes are good, but the service stinks and who wants to eat off of paper plates and drink out of plastic cups for $150 for 3 people? A little bag of potato chips and a pickle with a $38 crab cake is ridiculous. Offer up some fries or slaw and ditch the paper plate. We felt like the menu was incredibly limited for a restaurant on the water with great access to local seafood. Wouldn’t dine here again.

I needed a day away and found Cole's Point Tavern. I had the best crab cake sandwich I might have ever eaten and a really nice conversation with the waitress, Jocelyn. Everyone was very friendly and the view was amazing. I will definitely make many future trips :)
