We ended up at Deadrise Grill on a Sunday evening since our first choice closed early on Sundays. Our server was very nice and did what she could, but she seemed limited by the lack of organization, team help and capable cooks in the kitchen. It took about 45 minutes just to receive two appetizers and over an hour and a half for our entrées. The food itself was just okay at best, Some dishes, like the smashburger, really missed the mark.

It seems like the kitchen and overall service management could benefit from some serious fine-tuning. Hiring a professional consultant might serve them well. We weren’t the only ones who felt this way; another group sitting near us had the same slow service and mediocre at best food, and they mentioned they had also hoped to go to the other restaurant down the road.

Given the many positive reviews, maybe we caught them on an unusually bad night. Still, based on this visit, we won’t be returning and can’t recommend it.

Came by on July 5th with a party of 5 around 3pm for a late lunch. Restaurant was pretty busy and only had one waitress, who said it might be a little longer, as she was by herself. We didn't mind, as it was a Holiday weekend and we expected a little bit of a wait. For her to be by herself, she did excellent! The wait wasn't too long, but the food was definitely worth it! We had the steamed shrimp appetizer and the fried shrimp basket as well as the rockfish basket. This was our first time visiting this restaurant, but definitely won't be the last!

I'll start my review by saying you SHOULD visit here. Even though this is a critical review, I think the business should have an opportunity to grow from feedback and everyone should decide for themselves AFTER visiting a place how they feel about it.

You can tell the business is a little newer when you walk in- it doesn't seem to have much of an identity. It wants to be a place where a family can come out to eat but also a dive bar. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive but the haphazard seating arrangements and the floating chairs in the middle of the restaurant make it hard to know what to expect next.

This place is LOUD. Not in the average kind of "there's a bunch of people in here, so it's going to be loud" kind of way. Volume bounced off every concrete surface and again off the low ceiling so a place with 30 people inside might sound like 60 instead of the other way around. A few acoustic tiles or a carpet (as horrible as a carpet in a restaurant is) could drastically help this.

Food quality which is what is most important. The food took a while to be ready which means it was prepared with love. The fries and sweet potato fries are crispy and seasoned well. The mac and cheese, although good, I believe came from a bag and as much love went into the crab cake sandwich, I would like to see that much love in the mac. Stuffed rockfish also an item we ordered had a generous amount of crab filling and a delicious sauce to go along with it. The big miss here was the chicken sandwich. The toppings were amazing, but the chicken, I believe, had only been dragged in flour but with no kind of binder. All the flour fried off allowing the oil to dry out the chicken from the inside. The flavor was so good I still ate half of it because I wanted it to be better, but I didn't want to fill up on something I was disappointed in when there were so many other positive aspects.

Overall, I know my review is lengthy but the longevity of a restaurant is directly tied to how it grows from some of its early experiences and I want to see this place in business for years to come. Please eat here, but know what to expect from my review and if they tackle some of these things I commented on, let the people know! You're only as good as they say you are online.

Would definitely recommend popping in and have a drink, snack or dinner. The staff are all so friendly and personal. The cheese curds, smash burger, and hush puppies are a family favorite for us. A local couple suggested, I try the bacon jam with the hush puppies… it was a great combo! They had a special of chicken & dumplings last Saturday (05/18/24), I ordered just a cup, it was so delicious that I ordered another cup…. Should have just ordered a bowl! I hope they offer it again. If you come to Hague for the season you should definitely try!

Such a lovely establishment. The waitress are so kind and the owners are so welcoming. I love how diverse their specials can be even though they’re seafood based. It’s nice to have a restaurant around here for the colder months when nothing is open. 10/10 would recommend.

Lovely people, lovely place. Very open to welcoming “come here” folks! My husband had the smash burger and said it was the best burger he’s had in a while.

Dietary restrictions: I didn’t ask if they have any gluten-free options. I am gluten-free and I assumed this small restaurant in such a remote area would not accommodate me. Who knows? I wish I would have asked. The new ownership seemed very friendly and open to suggestions.
