Everytine I'm in the area or have someone visiting from the area, I always request Wilkes. Legit the best NC style pulled pork sandwich I ever had! Get the Northern Beans as well! Bring me some if ur coming to NYC area
I moved to Virginia from North Carolina (aka the best bbq state in the nation) a few years ago, and while I love VA very much, I sure do miss NC bbq. I'd tried some of the options on offer in the Hampton Roads area, and none of them ever really scratched that Carolina itch... Until I tried Wilkes Bar-B-Q. I swear I heard a little Hallelujah chorus when I had my first bite of that chopped plate (with slaw & baked beans, of course). Perfectly seasoned, just the right amount of that vinegar tang, melts in your mouth like butter. Not only is it the best bbq I've had in VA, I dare say it's some of the best damn bbq I've had, full stop. Five stars. Ten out of ten. I will absolutely be back, and so will my family when they come up to visit. Wilkes is the real deal!

The food is very outstanding. The service is friendly. The atmosphere is no more than a hole in the wall no bigger than a closet but as I said the food is very outstanding and so is the service.

I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had here. Bbq sandwich. Ribs. String beans. Potato salad. All have been delicious.
Tried this place while visiting for Thanksgiving. I got the BBQ sandwich, It was good, but I thought it was served with BBQ sauce on the meat.

Best BBQ in town. BBQ and sides are very good. You can not get better Q nowhere. Eat BBQ, not chicken. You will not be disappointed. All plates fill you up to your core.
