Olde Dominion Tavern

Went in and got seated. After settling in and ready to order, the hostess that sat us at the table walked over and informed us that there was actually a reservation for that table, then offered to seat us two separate tables (there are 4 of us, my husband and I with two small children). We ended up just leaving and going to Velocity Wings. Much better service there.

Went there last week for prime rib night. Sat there for 15 minutes before anybody said anything to me. Finally they came over and asked what they could do for me. I asked to confirm that tonight was prime rib night and was told they don't do prime rib anymore and then they walked away without even getting me a drink so I left

When the new owners took it over, they said it was going to be "upscale." It isn't. It is pretty much the same as the old place, a bar, and some seating. This is not necessarily bad, but it does set expectations higher.

I made a reservation for Valentines Day for me and my wife. When we arrived, the place was slammed. We had to wait a few minutes for the hostess. She took us to a high top. And she was surly. I said that i had made a reservation for Valentines Day dinner, presumably to be romantic, and i didnt consider a high top to be appropriate. She snipped about how they were overbooked. We did not get the Valentines lobster menu that was advertised on their website, nor the cocktail menu. It was extremely loud, and my wife and I could barely hear each other. The manager came by and moved us to the tasting room, which was much quieter. But by then, we'd had enough. The cocktails and appetizers we ordered came. We finished up. the drinks were good, but the apps were lackluster. We asked for the check and were flabbergasted at what 2 drinks and 2 mediocre apps cost.

This was supposed to be a big deal for us. My wife loves good food and good restaurant experiences. I took off work to make it a day for her. We'd been to 2 other places, Red House in town and Doukenie winery, and this was supposed to be the topper. It was a big disappointment.

I walked over to Tony's for a pizza, and we went home.

The wait staff tried, but they were slow.

I doubt we will be back.

And if you're going to advertise yourself as upscale, you might try having a dress code.

Will not be returning. If the parking lot is empty, take that as the sign to not dine in.

Editing to add info: the restaurant was very hot. It smelled of kerosene heaters (the type you use outside). Exposed plywood and unfinished wood along the booth seats. Slow service (but friendly). Mediocre food (chicken tenders kids meals, prime rib sandwich, shrimp and grits) with high prices. Brunch on a Saturday until 4pm with no option for a lunch menu. We don't want the gift card but thanks for the offer.

Love their sense of community, their customer service, their food, and how easy it is to accommodate large groups for private events.

I host a monthly luncheon, and they never once tried to say no or we need to charge you a fee upfront (like Red House Tavern does, horrible customer service there).

If you’re in Prince William County, Virginia, and looking for a fantastic dining experience, Old Dominion Tavern in Haymarket is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is welcoming, whether you’re stopping by for a casual meal or a night out with friends. Their beer and tap selection is second to none, and their bourbon collection is a treat for enthusiasts. We absolutely love the service—friendly, attentive, and always on point. The food? Incredible! Our favorite go-to is the Spicy Avocado Burger, which is packed with flavor and perfectly cooked every time. While the Rib Eye Steak is no longer on the menu, it deserves a special mention—it was by far the best steak I’ve ever had, rivaling dishes from high-end restaurants that require reservations. Old Dominion Tavern truly sets itself apart with quality, taste, and a great vibe. I highly recommend it to anyone in Haymarket, Gainesville, Marshall, Warrenton, or the greater Northern Virginia area! A little piece of heaven in Haymarket!

Just had a dinner here & it will be our last. We’ve been here a few times before & it’s usually been ok. Tonight, we realized that this place has gone way downhill. Our first impression was that it was just dirty & neglected - Lights were out, floors & windows dirty, paint dinged up on wall, tables were a mess & it wasn’t even busy.
Not a nice environment to enjoy a dinner.
The food was not good either. French Onion soup was bland & mediocre. Two of us ordered the $20 burger & it was also flavorless & bland. Fries were probably the best part of our meal. We will not be back.

It’s probably very good food I just couldn’t stay to try it. The seats are not meant to be at those tables and I had two options: hot by the window or cooler right at the entrance to the kitchen. Cute place, amazing and accommodating staff, but chairs and tables not so great.

My husband has been talking about wanting to bring me here for weeks he loves it so much. The cocktails are excellent, as is the service. Really loved everything we had. For what it’s worth, our 2 year old won’t stop talking about the Mac n cheese.

Looking forward to coming back! Hope they are able to expand the bourbon menu in the future.

Kid-friendliness: The server was so sweet in her interactions with our 2 year old. A perfect place to get a drink with my husband but know our daughter will be comfortable and happy at the same time.

I have had the best service I’ve had in a while. My host Emma was super friendly and timely. She treated my table with the upmost respect. Props to this establishment for hiring a server like her and her colleagues. I believe they were named Matt, and Jenna. All the staff was amazing.
