Saturday afternoon was going by quickly, and we craved a delicious snack, preferably a sweet one with some chocolate involved. We hadn’t been by Whisk French Bakery in a while, so we decided to head on over before they closed for the day at 4 p.m. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by such a helpful and friendly employee named Jae. Her enthusiasm for and knowledge of French baked goods was unparalleled. We took quite some time to look over and discuss all the options, and Jae was very patient and accommodating. It was truly difficult to choose a baked good at this point, because we were so wowed by everything Jae had shown and described for us. Ultimately, I was craving chocolate, so I gleefully ordered the brownie. My husband, a Snickerdooodle aficionado, opted for the tempting Snickerdoodle sandwich cookie. This was no ordinary brownie, and I could tell by just looking at it. The brownie was topped with a generous helping of luxurious chocolate ganache, and there were milk chocolate shavings decorating the top of it. My first bite was bliss! These different textures and chocolates worked so well together to give me that full-on rich chocolate flavor experience that I was hoping for!The Snickerdoodle sandwich cookie delivered cinnamon, butter, and caramelized cookie edges (I live for these brown edges!) with indulgent buttercream frosting piped between two Snickerdoodles. Again, Whisk has mastered a flavor and texture adventure for your mouth and soul. What really sets Whisk apart from other area bakeries is their monthly macaron subscription club. Jae was so proud to tell us about this amazing program, meant to introduce us to a taste of France each month with a boxed set of a half-dozen fresh macarons in six unique flavors, decorated expertly with the month’s theme. September’s theme is France, as the name “The French Box” suggests. Inside this gift box you’ll find exquisite flavors of cafe au lait, dark chocolate hazelnut, and French lavender, and you’ll be enraptured by the inspired artwork on each macaron.Parking: In a shopping center so there's plenty of parking.

Cinnamon bun was bomb!!

Fox Greenlee

Friendly service but the croissant was somehow soggy, and very oily. Perhaps their other goods are better but I won't be by to give them a try again

Excellent choice of pastries. The chocolate almond croissants are delightful.

I’ve put off reviewing this until I gave it a few more chances but every single time my husband and I try to go here, it’s closed. It’s now become a running joke. We’ve driven out at least 5 times when Google says they’re open, only to get there and the doors are locked and the lights are off. The one time we did go and they were open, they were out of decaf espresso (though the pastries were good).Currently, it says they’re open at 7- they are not, they open at 8. When they initially opened. I was excited to have a dessert place other than shyndigz that’s was open until 7 so you could pick something up after work but now they close at 4. Whomp whomp.

This was my first visit back to Whisk Staples Mill after the shift to a to go market concept with Thalhimer cakes. I was pleasantly surprised at the improvements over my 3 prior visits last year. We were greeted when we walked in, all the cases were stocked and the 2 employees working answered all our questions and offered a tasting of the new chicken salad. This was AMAZING compared to prior visits. While we were there 2 more workers came in and they did not appear as friendly. We tried the thalhmier cake because we have heard a lot about them. Not being a Richmond native, this is new to us. It was a very generous slice and was pretty tasty. They cut the slice fresh for us.We also ordered a coffee and ice tea. It seemed like forever before we got our drinks. And then waited again for milk.Because they added cases and freezers, there are only 3 tables, which were pretty crowded together, and if there had been other customers we definitely would have been in the way. I didn't feel comfortable sitting there. They offer pastries, macarons, fresh breads and an assortment of prepared foods. They also had sandwiche, salads, coffee and tea to order. The to go case has a screen over it with a sign that says, "Please ask for help opening screen".....seems like that will take time and slow the grab n go process down a bit.I want to love Whisk, have followed them on social media for years and was SO excited when they opened in the west end, yet it just hasn't lived up to my expectations or the level service at other bakeries in town.Rating + .5 Service+1 Food~Taste/flavor/quality+1 Presentation+.5 Atmosphere/vibe+1 Value

The thalheimers cake definitely brings back nostalgia

Contrary to other reviews regarding employees, our visit here today went great!! The gentleman that was working today was friendly and welcoming! I of course had questions and he had prompt responses! The oatmeal cream sandwich, the almond croissant, and the coconut macaroon were all delicious and would definitely have again!! Those are three things I would recommend! I did want to order a coffee, but with the only option to have 'traditional cow milk' through the automated coffee dispenser, it left me with no option! That's the only improvement recommendations I'd have!

Most of the baked goods were depleted by 1130am. No chicken salad was available.

Stopped in to grab some of the Thalhimers options midday. It was clean and Billy was great. While I can't speak to the accuracy of the other reviews, they are completely opposite of what I experienced there.

Katherine R.

First time reviewer on Yelp who had such a negative and off-putting experience at Whisk on Staples Mill that I had to share for other would-be customers. As he handed me my order, a tall, bald, male employee spoke to me with sneering sarcasm and then stared at me with strange, pointed hostility as he slowly taped the box closed. It was startling. I hadn't complained or even spoken to this employee other than to give him my name. This behavior was not just rude and insulting, it was frankly bizarre and unnerving. When I told the guests at my niece's graduation party about how I was treated, and after they tasted the dessert, we all agreed that there are plenty of other bakeries in Richmond that would welcome our business, especially considering that the simmering hostility and outright rudeness of that Whisk employee may seep into the baked goods. I certainly do want to eat anything else prepared by someone who treats his customers with such disrespect.

Brianna E.

Rude staff. They also don't put dairy free milk in any of their iced lattes. The downtown location is better.
