Ordered delivery via grub hub. Over all it was okay and would order again. I really hate when they package together cold sushi and hot sushi it ruins the experience. I dont like my sushi warm. Other then packaging execution issue I would say it tasted fresh , loved the extra large salad they provided. And just like Similar sushi restaurants they advertise a crab salad topping for my dynamite roll, not and IMMITAITION crab salad , which is okay I'm already expecting that but also a pet peeve of mine. If you like decent sushi and like delivery I would recommend this!

Review is for the lunch buffet only. Service very nice and prompt. Drinks were refilled and plates cleared without asking. The buffet area is a bit cramped. There's a salad and soup station, and hot food station, and then the sushi. It a mix of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese food with other oddballs thrown in like plantains and spring rolls. There were a couple of good items on the hot bar, but I found the fired rice and lo mien lacking flavor. The sushi was not very good. Too much emphasis on jazzing up the rolls so you cant taste the fish. I can see the appeal, it is all you can eat after all. Just not for me, would have rather ordered the charisi. Wouldnt mind coming back during dinner to see how big the jump in quality is for dinner.

I just went here & They changed into a Korean bbq restaurant. That's not their expertise.. They should've stayed with Hibachi. They also gave me this red rice that was dry and When I asked to white rice they said it wasn't cooked yet. So We only ate our meat without rice so When I asked for a precent Of our bill to be cut because they didn't even have white rice ready for customers! They told me that They didn't even open until 5. I don't get why that's my issue! When You shouldn't have took my service if you weren't ready to serve! Their customer service sucks & So does the food! Don't waste your time or money. Save your appetite for somewhere that will satisfy you.

Hate to say it but honestly the worst sushi I've ever had in my life. 1) the shrimp tempura had shells in it.... 2) the tempura was soggy not crispy, and 3) the tuna roll looked like the furthest thing from tuna. It was very unsatisfying.

I would give Matsutake 3.5 stars. This AYCE sushi restaurant is typically pretty busy during their core lunch hours. I've been here twice and think they have a decent sushi buffet. Overall, the sushi is fresh and there's an assortment of rolls you can choose from. The buffet ranges from spicy tuna, lasagna rolls, shrimp tempura, sweet and sour chicken, miso soup, and fried tofu. Great deal if you're hungry!

I came here today, Saturday Sept 29th 2018, for the lunch buffet around 2PM. About 10 mins after I finished my lunch, I noticed a small uncomfortable zit forming right beneath my left lip. It felt uncomfortable and slightly numb but I just ignored it because I thought it was a bug bite.. I went home to take a nap because I was feeling unusually tired. when I woke up, the bump got bigger and it was swollen. I know this has to be an allergic reaction from the food because I've had it before someplace else. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE. Ive never had this happen to be after eating sushi before. There must've been something in the fish that made my lip swell up. The fish was definitely not fresh. When I was getting food at the restaurant, I even overheard a guy say he got an allergic reaction from the salmon or tuna at the restaurant. This is honestly so disgusting, and the WORST sushi place I've ever went to. I even feel safer eating sushi at a random Chinese buffet.

What used to be the hibachi side is now Korean bbq.... considering not many options in this area it's a nice addition. That said there are some things that are missed causing a loss of a point on my previous 4 rating Most Korean grill places have the two order rule. Which I hate. Reason is one order is usually enough for my hubby and I to split. Their previous hibachi tables are still tables for 8 but only one grill in the center of the table. Fine got our dinner of two orders but way to small if you actually had more than 4 at the table. Our two orders filled the grill. Now we ordered two meats and I wish our chef had kept them more separate. At the end things got more mixed before I realized what had occurred It's not obvious on the menu but I'm going to have to see on our next time if onions and mushrooms can be added. I got them with my order of ribs but hubby enjoyed them with his bolgolgi. On the sides or panchan. I adore their potato/Waldorf salad ... and their pickled vegs were yum... for our taste their kimchi was a miss which is unfortunate. Our meal also cane with a nice tossed salad and miso soup plus a extra fried fish treat from the chef A huge negative was our grill table wasn't functioning properly. While they finally got it to light they were unable to lower the temp without it turning off. The chef had to basically hold it on during the cooking as it kept turning off... we were told that the front grills aren't used as much and tend to not work due to that. Sounds like they need to exercise all their equipment in rotation. Wishing their Korean menu was a bit more robust. Would like to see soup/stew options plus more seafood grill options like squid or octopus

Came here with M and her kiddos. Lunch sushi buffet? Sounds good to me! Service was not the best but it was busy during the time we visited. Fortunately, water was within reach and we refilled our own cups easily. The cashier was friendly and the other employees are friendly as well. Not the most attentive during the lunch rush but A-OK! The lunch buffet has a variety of sushi, grilled meats, veggies, noodles, etc. The quality of the sushi isn't the best but definitely still quite flavorful for the price. Their miso soup and homemade salad dressing was excellent. Overall, I'm glad I got a chance to try this restaurant out. The most important part was the good company and awesome conversation.

If I could give this zero stars I would. We ordered four rolls and they were horrible. The fish in the spicy yellowtail was brown, the spicy tuna roll had a tuna "paste" and not even real tuna pieces/chunks like actual sushi should be, the salmon belly was hard, and the eel roll was chewy. The sushi was assembled poorly and the roll basically broke apart upon picking it up. Overall I do not recommend this spot for sushi and don't waste your time or money.

GREAT sushi. Just flew in from Los Angeles, and the folks we were meeting got detained in immigration. So my wife and I decided to get some food to pass some time. Found a nearby Japanese restaurant and took a shot. WHAT A GREAT IDEA! The fish was excellent. The chef knew his business. He made great recommendations based on what was freshest and in season. All for a super reasonable price! We now have a new favorite sushi joint when we're flying in to DC!

Brilliant food and lovely people! Great for gluten-free! I was desperate for sushi and decided to try Matsutake. I was greeted quickly and warmly, and sat at the sushi bar, where I was immediately struck by the sushi chef. He obviously loves his work, and has a genuine smile and a kind word for everyone. The sushi is fresh, of outstanding quality and generously portioned. My test is always the octopus (Tako). If it's rubbery and tastes like an eraser, that tells me the fish isn't fresh and I get up and leave. This octopus was tender and fresh. I also noticed that I received three pieces instead of two. This is another trademark of Matsutake: you get more than you expect. I ordered four rolls: tako, spicy tuna, salmon maki, and eel avocado roll. They threw in Miso soup and salad and the chef sent me little extra sushi rolls. Delightful! I went back the next night with my son, and we had an even better time. He had the unagi don (eel on rice) and it was exquisite, with a huge portion that we had trouble finishing. I had mostly the same rolls, except for spicy salmon maki and yellowtail maki this time, and again, everything was impeccable. The chef sent over a free plate of four shumai dumplings as a little gift. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without hovering. Their affection for the chef/owner is obvious. BTW, I have a gluten allergy and had no issues eating here. When I mentioned it to the staff, they immediately brought a bottle of tamari (gluten-free soy sauce) for me. This is the way a business should be run. Quality food and service, employees who are treated with respect and genuinely enjoy and are proud of what they serve; and giving more than the customer expects. My only regret is that I live 40 miles away in Maryland. I guess I'll have to visit Herndon more often!

The sushi bar, etc. for lunch is fine, nothing special. A quick and efficient delivery system for sushi, some Korean appetizers, miscellaneous Chinese style hot food, and so forth. There's lots better food even nearby, but it won't get to you and your belly half as fast!

Been to this resturant several times for their lunch buffet with coworkers. Not bad for buffet sushi. They put out new plates often enough, but I would complain that where they serve it is not chilled. No off flavors from the fish though, and that matters

I have fond memories of this place so had to come here with my college aged son who just moved back to VA to return to school. He recommended it, saying it's known for good cheap sushi among his friends. I remembered it because it's one of the few sushi buffets I've come across. It's a great deal at $15 but you're getting what you pay for ... a wide variety of all-you-can-eat-sushi. If you're looking for fresh, though, you're going to want to order off the menu. The buffet also includes a hot bar specializing in fried items such as veggie tempura and gyoza. Again, this is a buffet so you may want to wait until they replenish with the newly fried dishes, otherwise you're in for cold fried food. There are better sushi places in Herndon and Reston, so if you're a sushi snob, look elsewhere. They have a varied menu, though so I will be back to try the Korean dishes such as the plate of fried pork belly!

Tried this place out while on a layover. Overall the sushi they have is pretty good but when it comes to the warm food the quality noticeably drops in quality, though the price range is about what you can expect. Maybe its because I tried the buffet portion that the quality in the warmer food dropped, but I wont know until I go back and try the place again. The staff is on top of things though and doesn't let the food level drop or your drink to go empty.
