This is a one-star review since the restaurant has changed hands and there hasn’t been an update to its status in years. Look up Holy Mackerel for reviews on the current business at that location!

Very friendly staff and our waitress was very sweet and on top of things. we had a late seating so food could've been better but I blame that on us arriving late and on a Friday night. would definitely recommend trying it.

It is out of business. Closed permanently! If you call you will get a recording stating that it will not re-open. I heard that a brewery may be going in there.

Crab cakes, scallops, twice baked potatoe, squash, zucchini & onion bake and caramel apple pie are delicious...view was great as was the service & staff...reasonably priced!!

Food was mediocre, stuffed mushrooms were good a nice flavor. Salmon was dry but had good flavor. Portions were a bit small for the quality. Coleslaw was inedible.

Bacon wrapped scallops sweet and tender. Prime rib with twice baked potato and squash zucchini veggie mix spot on. Service was awesome. Wait staff was personable and kind, very helpful.

The atmosphere was delightful! The waitress gave outstanding service. The food was delicious. Enjoyed my lunch. This place has a down-home feel.

Was visiting Charles City and heard good things about this place. Staff was extremely courteous and had very friendly and fast service. If I am every back in Charles City I will make sure to come by again.

Great food! Nice evening view! It wasn't real busy at the time that we stopped in. We originally were seated on the far side of the restaurant - away from the view. After we asked about moving to a table with a view of the water, they graciously got us to another table.

It's good if you like seafood. Didn't have too many other options besides things seafood related. Got the hot crab, didn't really like the bread crisps too much. But you are honestly are paying for the view. There lemonade was super good.

Great budget seafood restaurant. Stopped here on a whim on the way home from visiting a few plantations on the James River, and was not disappointed. The seafood is fresh and well prepared. The big winner of the night was the blackened tuna salad.

We have eaten at Dockside several times in the past few years and noticed that each time we go back things have gone down but the prices have gone up. This visit I decided to try the She Crab Soup which turned out to be a big mistake. First, there was hardly any crab in the soup and second someone doesn't know how to make real She crab soup as it didn't have a thick cream base and no hint of sherry in the taste. Instead, it had a slightly yellow base and no thickness like cream. It was perhaps the worst She crab I ever had. I hated to complain but for almost five dollars and no crab I had to. The waitress told the owner and she came over looking puzzled to why I didn't like the soup. I told her why and she apologized and said she would take it off the bill which I appreciated. Our main entrees were average (oysters small, not very flavorful) but my stuffed shrimp was good. However, for the price I didn't feel the beautiful view of the river justified the price.

While it wasn't busy, we did have to wait a few minutes for the server to come out front. The view from the patio was nice, and the food was delicious. Less than $20 per person for soup, entree, and drinks beats the prices at a lot of other seafood restaurants.

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely meal and casual waterfront dining experience on Friday June 14. The late spring evening was perfectly cooled and the west facing patio seats added to the orange sunset. We both selected the seafood platter; she ordered the fried version and I the broiled. They both came perfectly prepared and we were eager to sample the other's plate. Our beverages were ice tea. If there is one area for improvement, it MUST be in the area of kitchen speed. It took nearly 40 minutes for our meal and there were only 12 other people in the restaurant at 7:30 PM. I'm sure an appetizer would have helped the wait time, so I'll consider that the next time we dine here. The wait staff helps each other by tending to your water and beverages. The status updates about your meal order was also helpful. Just please improve the seed in the kitchen!

If I could give zero stars, I would. Came in with a large party, waited for over an hour. All of our meals were incorrectly cooked and almost all of our sides were either incorrect or missing. Once we were checked on by our waitress, we ordered drinks that we'd been sitting without for over half an hour. They never came. We were told our meals were “coming out right now”, when we finally got tired of waiting, but when they got here EVERYTHING was cold. It was clear they simply forgot about us. Adding the overpriced aspect of their food for the quality? Would have been better off eating at the gas station at the end of the road.
