One Star – Serious Concerns After Years of Loyalty
I originally gave Yamazato 4 out of 5 stars, noting that the food was good and reasonably priced—though a bit heavy on onions for my taste. However, I’ve since had to revise my review due to a recent experience that left me seriously ill. After eating here, I developed food poisoning symptoms, including vomiting and gastrointestinal issues that lasted several days.
What concerned me most was that the food tasted unusually salty—almost as if it had been over-seasoned to mask spoilage. This raises serious concerns about food safety and quality control. Whether intentional or not, it left the impression that food may have been served past its prime rather than properly discarded.
Adding to the frustration, prices have recently increased—despite no improvement in quality. My husband and I noticed the price hike happened shortly after the restaurant installed a new stove. While upgrades are understandable, it felt like the cost was simply passed on to customers without added value. For food that’s relatively simple and inexpensive by nature, the new pricing feels unjustified.
Unfortunately, after years of being loyal customers, my family and I will no longer be returning. The trust is gone, and the risk simply isn’t worth it.

Great food, from the looks of the strip mall and the interior of the restaurant being so run down the wife and I after looking at the reviews deiceded to give this place a try and prayed not to get food poisoning, but the food was great, given the portions were small. With that said we will be back.

The food is the best!!! We have eaten here several times and love it so much! The lobby is always clean and the employees are the sweetest! Everything is delicious and those spring rolls will melt in your mouth!!! Delicious!

Fast service. Hitachi style. Always good. Restrooms. Ample parking Food is always delicious, consistent, ample portions.
Have ordered here many times over last 5 years. All pleasant experiences. Last order was incorrect and someone couldn't eat what they gave us. Called the owners and they proceeded to argue with me that I got what I ordered. Just wanted that meal replaced since it was not what I ordered. Female owner got angry and hung up on me, I wasn't being rude or aggressive. Be careful and be lucky ordering here. They will not work with you. I will never go back there again.

Had the worst customer service today! We ordered the night before and received the wrong food and when I called to ask about a replacement for the meal that was not right and was told they had me down for something different after I asked 3 times when I ordered that it was correct. They hung up on me without doing anything to help with the food mess up.
I've thoroughly enjoyed my recent trips to our local Yamazotos, and as a guy who actually lived in Japan for two years It was incredibly difficult to pick a favorite between the hibachi steak, chicken and shrimp because they were all so delicious. I say all this but the best dish was undoubtedly the steamed gyoza that reminded me the most being in japan and so light on flavour yet packed a punch.
You cant get better than the atmosphere at Yamazoto's, as it is cozy and very family-friendly. My noodle with vegetable plates were a huge hit, the empty dishes of my 1 and 3-year-old boys confirming this!*** The service was perfect and I felt at home with the staff.
If you are in Hurt and want a real Japanese meal, Yamazotos is your place. This restaurant deserved 5 stars on every level, from food to service.
We had a wonderful experience. It's hibachi just not cooked on your table! We paid $73 for 4 adults and had a variety of dishes including Appetizers and 4 entrees. Filet mignon, shrimp, chicken and beef. Fried rice and mixed veggies (onion broccoli mushroom and zucchini) We did all drink water only. The service was excellent, so welcoming and the food was terrific and the restaurant was clean. Great place for dinner while we were at Leesville Lake!
