Around 4:30 PM, my child and I walked in to place an order, and from the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt very unwelcoming. The employee at the front stayed on his phone the entire time we approached the counter. There was no greeting, acknowledgment, or basic customer service.
I ordered pasta with fish and was told the total would be around $75, which immediately seemed extremely high. I asked to see the menu because the pasta price listed was $13.99, yet I was being charged over $22–$23 for it. The employee couldn’t explain the pricing, so he called the manager.
Unfortunately, the manager’s behavior made the situation much worse. He was rude, aggressive, and became offended when I questioned the pricing. What shocked me most was that he began making comments about my daughter, who is a minor. That was completely inappropriate and unacceptable.
At that point, I requested a refund because I no longer felt comfortable continuing the order due to the manager’s attitude and behavior.
Now I understand why the restaurant was nearly empty during the afternoon and holiday hours. The customer service was terrible, the environment felt hostile, and the overall experience was very disappointing

I usually go to Time Ethiopian Cafe and Market to buy Ethiopian bread(injera), meat, and other miscellaneous items, and I’ve never actually sat down to eat there. But last week, I ordered tibs and a vegetarian combo, and the food was excellent. the flavors were great, and the portions and variety were better than most Ethiopian restaurants I’ve tried.

Today, I ordered fish cutlet with pasta, and once again, the taste was amazing and the portion was more than enough for one person. I really hope they keep the food quality this consistent.

I visit Tim’s Cafe and Market Ethiopia Cafe once or twice a week because it is close to my house, usually just to pick up a few items. Unfortunately, my experience with one of the waiters has been consistently negative.
When customers sit down to eat, he is polite because he expects tips. But when I only buy items to go, his attitude changes. He acts rude, breathes heavily as if he is annoyed, and behaves like he is doing me a favor. When I ask simple questionssuch as for a bag or how to pay he responds with frustration and impatience.
This has happened many times, not just once or twice. I was there again yesterday and experienced the same behavior. I mentioned this during a family gathering, and several family members said they know exactly who I’m talking about and have stopped going to the store because of him.
It’s disappointing, because the location is convenient, but customer service should be respectful to everyone whether they dine in or just make a quick purchase.

Someone I came in with bought from the store and the waiter asked me to bag it myself. I’ve never seen a server/cashier ask a customer to do their job. When it’s not takeout, but items bought from the store. Bit unprofessional!

I went to Time Café and asked the waitress for a Perrier to drink, but they told me to get it from the refrigerator myself. Both the man and the female waitress were talking and ignoring customers. It felt like they refused to serve me because they assumed I wouldn’t leave a tip. The staff were not welcoming at all. I’m not sure if the female owner is aware, but the service has gotten really bad lately.

Best Ethiopian food I've had in DC. Perfect shiro, injera, and kik alicha. The prices are bit lower than some other Ethiopian spots, and this was the best meal I've had in a long time, thank you!

I ordered Derek Tibs to go and it cost me about $18. This is by far the worst Derek Tibs in Virginia. The onions and peppers were completely burnt as you can see and it was hard to eat. I would have returned it had I known but I opened the box after 40 minutes driving home unfortunately. The server also told me they didn't have some of the other Tibs I wanted on the menu like the Chikina.

I don't normally write reviews for restaurants but I ordered their food from uber eats and I put in the notes how i wanted the food specifically. Normally places do not look at the notes that I wrote but they did and gave me everything that I asked for. The even separated the food for me in containers. The injera was nice and soft and the food was cooked to perfection. They also had my food done within 45 minutes of ordering. I def will be ordering from here again and I appreciate the food and the service!
