This old converted house is beautiful. Our server, Pete was very professional, concientious and cordial. The menu is limited and I wish there were some sugar-free/lower carb options for dessert, so those that have to restrict their sugar intake can enjoy a dessert at the end. The house steak sauce was a bit disappointing, but the remoulade and the horseradish creme fraiche were delicious.
This was such a nice dinner. I like that portions sizes weren't over the top big. It was the perfect amount of food. I had the scallops and my husband had the salmon. They were both delicious! We also had the crab dip appetizer. It was more of a queso, but still tasty. We need our dinner with a scoop of homemade maple ice cream. Delicious!
Don't miss this restaurant if you are in Luray, VA. It is located in an old house, which is very cool. The food is straightforward farm to table - great fish, meat, and vegetables - prepared perfectly. Each entree comes with a choice of sauce. I chose the seasonal option which was parsnip sauce which I paired with the scallops - so delicious! The service is outstanding. Our server had an excellent knowledge of the menu and the area so we got great tips on what to order and what to experience while visiting. I highly recommend a visit.
The food was delicious, the service was fantastic and we really enjoyed the atmosphere in the historic building that has so much charm. Be sure to order the yummy duck fat fries!
This place was overbooked. The only seating was outside on the porch in 50* weather. Unfortunately we were sat at the table next to the door that serviced the porch, so we were cold throughout and the food chilled very quickly. The food was Okay, but not extraordinary. Associated with the Local Chop House, I expected much more.
The food was delicious! I am craving the cornmeal catfish right now. It was so fresh! The bread was delicious also and the service was outstanding!!!!
(Thu 23 Oct 2025) PLEASE CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!! Great chill vibe. Great service. Great food. This was our first time at The Chop House and we will definitely go back AND we'llrecommend it to anyone we know who stays or passes through Luray. We were observing our daughter and son-in-law's 20th Anniversary and the house added a thoughtful “Happy Anniversary” table sign to recognize the year occasion. Our steaks were as we ordered them (medium rare), juicy, tender, and flavorful. The carrot and brussells sprouts were an excellent side choice alongside the house garlic mashed potatoes. I loved the catfish chowder (seasonal) and the Creole Crab Dip (“just spicy enough but not too much”) was a great shared appetizer. The menu was efficiently limited but included beef, chicken, and seafood entrees and several familiar but intriguing sides with interesting house twists. We're mature but experienced foodies and will go back to try the many menu options we missed this time. My wife enjoyed the Autumn Spice Martini and I the Chop House Old Fashioned with brown sugar simple syrup (an autumnal twist) with a generous 2-ounce pour (I could tell when I sipped it and the server confirmed it). The in-house wine selection was sufficient and carried but the “by the glass” options comprised perhaps only a third of the 30-35 selections with the “by the bottle” options tended toward the more refined (think expensive) with most over $50 and several over $90-100 - it IS a “special occasion” venue so that seems appropriate. Our server (JOHN?) was polite, attentive, knowledgeable, and gracious. The Hostess (didn't get her name) was pleasant and engaging. Our bill for 3 entrees (my wife and I split the 12-ounce ribeye), daughter filet mignon, son-in-law catfish, plus two drinks and two appetizers plus sides was $187 (before the $40 tip). It WAS a good value for money and a GREAT and memorable experience. This is a “special” OR... and ANY OCCASION venue. Check it out.

We ate here two days in a row - once at a table upstairs and once at the bar - because it was so good. Visiting from MD and wanted to try the crab dip for an app to see how it stacks up with home dishes - it was great and definitely would hold it’s own back home! We tried the hummus the next day and it was equally as good. Had a ribeye on Day 1 and a sirloin on Day 2 for entrees. Both were cooked perfectly and were great in combo with sides of mashed potatoes, asparagus, and mac-n-cheese (the latter of which is one of the best we’ve ever eaten - highly recommend).

Stopped in for an early dinner after a day of hiking and touring Luray Caverns. The steak was perfect and the Catfish great. Out waiter Pete was outstanding, we couldn’t recommend this place more highly!

Amazing food, service and atmosphere! Highly recommend as it's well worth the cost. We ordered the crab dip starter, hummus starter, filet mignon, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, side of grilled mushroom, grilled shrimp skewer and drinks. Every piece of food was seasoned well to be flavorful and cooked perfectly to be enjoyable. The server was excellent as well and made the dinner more enjoyable as we celebrated a birthday. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Great meal well worth the price. Sat at the bar and so enjoyed our conversation with Jade. Shout out for the tip on doing the Dark Hallow Trail, we loved it.

Server Dahlia was a JOY. She made the experience at Chop House Bistro very enjoyable. The salad was my FAVORITE. I didn't know a salad could be so yummy! Great service and atmosphere without the pretentious vibe some steak houses exude!
