Basic food, good service but nothing to write hone about.
Fantastic pizza and appetizers! The staff went above and beyond to provide delicious food to create a pizza bar for a unique wedding dinner. Would highly recommend!
The place is very simple but the servers are lovely. Food is also very delicious. We stopped en route to Luray for a quick lunch. Better than having fast food!
Very good restaurant.
The food is outstanding
I can’t be sure, but I think they are serving canned chicken in the chicken Alfredo and chef Boyardee as spaghetti and meatballs. The sweet tea was really good at least.
Il Vesuvio offers a solid dining option in Luray, especially considering the town’s limited restaurant choices. The restaurant features small indoor seating and a modest enclosed outdoor area, which can feel a bit tight but still offers a comfortable space to enjoy a meal.
The menu is impressively large, covering everything from pizza and pasta to subs and more. Overall, the food was good, with the garlic knots standing out—they were flavorful and served in a decent portion. Prices, however, felt a bit high for what you get.
For dessert, I tried the croissant ice cream sandwich. While the ice cream itself was tasty, the croissant was toasted more than I prefer and didn’t pair well flavor-wise for me personally.
If you’re in Luray and looking for a casual spot with a variety of Italian-American dishes, Il Vesuvio is worth considering. Just be prepared for slightly elevated prices.
Loved this place! We stopped in here for dinner while vacationing at Shenandoah National Park. It doesn’t look like much but the food was great and our server was so friendly, she joked with us, had suggestions and just made us feel like old friends. My husband had the Stromboli and I had a gluten free pizza (surprisingly delicious thin crust, those celiacs out there know the struggle). We sat on the screened in patio it was perfect.
Super nice staff and honestly one of the best steak salads I've ever had. My friend got the lobster ravioli and was blown away. The amount of stuffing was INSANE. I would absolutely come here again in a heartbeat. 10/10 experience
Was in town to visit Luray Caverns. Were looking at reviews on Yelp and didn't appear to have a lot of places in town to eat. We decided yo try this place and it had a diner feel but with Italian Food. My son and ai ordered their calzone and it was delicious. I wish I would've left room for dessert.

Got a to-go order. Everything was delicious and as ordered. Staff was friendly and helpful!
Nice meal!
On the way back from Luray, we made a late lunch stop at this Italian eatery. The ambience was good. The staffs were helpful and attentive. We placed the order for French Fries and Hawaiin Pizza. All the items we tasted were delicious.
Stopped while visiting Luray Caverns. Bruschetta and fried pickle were ok. Pizza was great. They had indoor and outdoor seating. Parking was somewhat limited if they are busy. Staff was great.
We enjoyed a dinner here while visiting the national park (SNP) and area. The restaurant has a large screened patio with picnic tables for seating which was very family friendly. Our server, Emily, was terrific and even managed to coax the kitchen to prep an order of fried pickles even when they thought they were 86’ed. We sampled 3 pizzas, each nicely baked and tasty as well as an order of house chips (freshly made potato chips drenched in cheese). The menu also has a nice selection of pasta dishes though we did not have the appetite to sample those. Plenty of options for ice cream and other desserts too.
We loved the garlic knots! Buttery and garlicky and piping hot and tomato sauce to dip it in was has a fresh tomato flavor. The margherita pizza had fresh mozerella and basil atop a crispy crust with the perfect amount of crunch and chew. The seafood linguine was full of mussels and squid but lacked much clam but it didn’t stop us from devouring the whole thing. We couldn’t leave without trying the ice cream which was equally as good as the entire dinner. Can’t wait to return!
