Riverbound Cafe

We came for brunch. It was really busy. We got seated right away, but it took a very long time for our food. It seems like the kitchen was struggling to keep up. The cinnamon rolls were good. I got a create your own omelette with spinach, tomatoes and feta, which was pretty good. The potatoes were ok and the biscuit was dense and not great. The waitstaff was nice.

Burger was fabulous. Cocktail as well. The fries weren't great and cinnamon bun was average or less. Service good.

We went for Sunday Breakfast, it was busy. But were able to be sat without a wait. Our waitress, was on the older side, guess a lifer waitress, so far in the weeds, couldn't keep up. No silverware, was provided when sat. We ordered the home made cinnamon rolls. They came out cold, but the sugar icing was warm, very disappointing they weren't baked fresh delivered out of the oven hot. We were splitting 2, but no silverware. Had to wait for the waitress to come back, ask for silverware. Waited and waited, brought one roll. They didnt have any more. That should have been a sign. This place is poorly managed, and the waitstaff under performs. No concern at all. The food comes out, the kids didn't like the pancakes, thats a first. Wife's order was wrong, and the grits were not hot, no steam nothing, the table butter didnt melt. My order. Well the old waitress forget to add it to the ticket. So it never came out. When I spoke to the manager, she took my meal and my wife's off. Thats when we noticed, mine wasn't even ordered. The bacon was good, it was my side. Huge disappointment. I picked this place over eggs up grill, Sorry Brittany (best waitress at Eggs up Grill), never do that again.

What happened to Riverbound Cafe? We used to love going there. We would wait 30-45 minutes just to get a meal there. It has been several years since we last visited but we decided to pop in for dinner while driving back home from Richmond. The entire menu has changed (not in a good way) and the place was a ghost town. We were only one of two tables occupied in a restaurant that used to be standing room only. That should have been our first clue, but it was late. Our waitress was wonderful - absolutely no complaints there!!! And in their defense the waitress tried to accommodate to us since they were out of so many items. The food that we had was ok, but for the cost and the selection we left hungry and disappointed. My only guess is that they were sold to someone else. They went from having an amazing menu that was priced amazingly to a limited menu that is way overpriced. I’d love to see the old menu back (with the same quality), even if it meant raising the prices. I’m surprised they didn’t change the name and call it something else because this is not Riverbound Cafe.

This is my third time at Riverbound Cafe in Mechanicsville. This was my worst experience of the three. The restaurant was very busy on a Sunday morning so I understand things won't be perfect. However, we ordered a salad and a Turkey Ruben. We waited almost 45 minutes after being seated to get our food. The salad was very good. The Ruben was great but the fries were cold and soggy. This indicated the plate sat out for a while before it was brought out which was disappointing. Food quality is important when you have to wait that long to get served and with prices so high.

Always great food, staff and atmosphere!! No matter the time of day, you can find a great meal here, served with a smile in a relaxed space!!

We use go often but will have to say we have been turned away 2 times as they said they were closing at 2pm on a Sunday.... its just odd as people go after church and we had a party of 6 but the restaurant we went too was more than happy to seat us.....at times the waiting staff seems bombarded and are running hard

Met up with a friend for lunch. Thought we'd try somewhere new to us and we were so happy we came! Casual, fun vibes. Our server was so nice and great with suggestions. The rueben and the black bean burger did not disappoint. Bar area looked like a fun spot to catch a game. Fun place for friends!

The sliders were great and the homemade chips were AMAZING! Husband got the chicken Benedict and the homemade biscuit was awesome! The bartender Rhonda was attentive and so pleasant! We will be back!
